Birdshead grip availability...

Just got confirmation that they don't ship to Canada (messaged them on Ebay). Guess you are SOL if there isn't a Canadian retailer selling them.

I'm assuming these are ITAR controlled? I've had firearm grips and furniture shipped to me from Ebay (the US) before without issue.

I bought 3 off them on Ebay, wonder why they stopped shipping to Canada.

I've got an extra Moss 500/590 Shockwave Tech Raptor Grip for sale on the EE at cost, still in factory plastic - if anyone is looking.

Here it is on my Mossy 500 Road Blocker

Original PG (terrible):

Put on the Hogue overmolded PG and forend, much better than the factory piece. Raptor grip is supposed to have superior ergonomics, so I'll see when I shoot it.

I got 4 of them. Kept one and 3 are already at new homes. Will try on the 14" soon, want to shoot with the Road Blocker and see how it feels.

How's the grip treating you?

I have mine in hand now but my Mossys is way out East. Can't have your cake and eat it I guess.

Would you believe I visited the farm and was destroying cement blocks with slugs with my Fabarm (true redneck style) and I completely forgot to bring my Road Blocker w/Raptor grip

Beautiful! I need this!

Not for sale as of right now, but if you are this guy below with fat stacks - let me know

Finally got to the farm to test it out. I must say, this thing works extremely well. No torque on the wrist at all, pretty comfortable to shoot. Definitely the best PG I've tried (orig Moss/Hogue/no name brand and Raptor). Shot (2 3/4") #4, 00Buck and (3") #2 Steel HV. The 3" recoiled the most but it was pretty comfortable on my RoadBlocker. Very impressed with this PG. Of course, don't expect to hit anything farther than 15yds from the hip. Sure was fun though.

Great. Still waiting for my Mossy.

Should have tried some 3" Slugs. That's what I have been packing lately with all the bear attacks.

I'm thinking a PG shotgun would be a poor choice for large predators. If you were going to go to the trouble and expense of 3" slugs, wouldn't it be more practical to test it with a more suitable shotgun?

I like my Raptor grip on my 870. For what it is, I think buckshot would be a better choice at the distances in which a PG shotgun would be employed. For me personally, that distance would not exceed 15 yards.

If there is a chance of something gnawing on my ass, I think I would be going with a stocked shotgun. The pistol grips are a fun range toy, but I'm not about to lay my life on the line with one to save a few ounces

Well I haven't shot the mossy with the Birdshead yet so cannot comment on high brass shooting.

My carry at the moment is an 870 SB with 3" slugs and they rock big time. Once I get the mossy back it will be furnished with the Birdshead and shot with high brass. I imagine with practice, the gun could and would be effective.

@ 27" with five 2 3/4 slugs, I cannot think of a better low profile, lightweight bush carry.

You can always line it up with the bead sight in a "life and death" situation and risk it popping you in the face. At least you'll be accurate. Hickock45 did a video on a birdshead gripped 500 and he was shooting by 'aiming with the bead', hitting a gong at 80yds with slugs. Shooting from the hip - I'd say you'd have to be within 15yds and have practiced.

Hickock45 was having fun under a no-pressure situation when shooting his 500. I think in a potential life or death situation, any pistol grip shotgun would be a serious disadvantage. If you need to plug Yogi at close range you might only get one shot to do so. You'd better make it count. A follow-up shot the with a PG SG under the scenario presented is problematic at best. Almost impossible when your eyes are wattering up after having been bashed in the nose.

Everyone knows that a PGO shotgun isn't that practical. Having a debate on wilderness carry with one is pretty useless in this thread. It can be shot accurately if you hold it properly, which is my point. If I want to hit something far away, I'll get my stocked shotgun to use with slugs.

In a stressful situation, you're probably f@cked with almost anything if you can't keep your head.
