Birthday buy (Cz457)

Sup guys, my first purchase was that Soviet SKS, made a post about it before, got it out to a range and of course barely hit paper. Loved shooting it, felt great, was a ton of fun.

Stopped by bass pro on my way home from work today and ended up walking out with a brand new Cz457 22lr. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this rifle, it’s almost my birthday and I figured why not.

Got a scope already from a trade, just need rings to mount it, and a buddy at work is gunna toss me a bipod for 20 bucks.

(The missus offered to pay me back for it as an extra birthday gift)

I’ve seen all the positive feedback online about this rifle out of the box but what do you guys think?

Thanks fellas, got range time booked to send the first rounds out of it in a couple days, mounted my scope, still need a bipod but it's some slick I must say. Very excited.

Do they still come with a factory target with each gun?
Every CZ 452 I owned over the years shot very good .
I used 99% of the time American Eagle ammo.
CCI Stingers shot a little higher at the same distance, but generally to the same point of impact .
Enjoy your new CZ ...its an addiction of sorts.

Excellent choice for a rimfire rifle. Be warned, the next steps include a heavy barrel, YoDave trigger spring, chassis or stock, pic rail with at least 30MOA inclination, and an NRL-level scope. But you'll be fine.

Seriously, the 457s are very nice and easy to work on. Older CZs like the 452s, 455s, Brno2 and 4, are all super choices, but 457s have so many accessories available. Gotta be the most popular design in Canada for a good bolt 22 these days.

Good for you=taking good advice to heart and acting on it. You didn't hear "buy a CZ or Tikka" then go get a Derya tactical thing instead.

Excellent choice of rifle, you'll enjoy that the rest of your life if you take care of it and if you make that effort....someone else will enjoy it after you for a long, long time!

Leave Winchester and Remington rimfire ammo types on the shelf at the store, better to feed that CCI at least (start with SV) and SK Rifle match. Try a variety of fast hollow points to see which one your gun likes if you have hunting/pest aspirations. Don't expect the fast stuff to shoot as accurately, but hunting ammo isn't for shooting groups.

I didn't see one in the box just a user manual, and the black card to join their CZ firearms club, includes a lifetime barrel warranty which I thought was an incredible gesture. I'm sure I'll have tons of fun with it

I do plan on passing this one down to my son in the future if he ever gets his firearms license so I'm glad about all the positive responses and everything I read online about it. Don't plan on ever getting rid of this one!

I saw theres a lot you can do with it, I'll be shooting it as is out of the box for a while other than the scope I mounted, also getting a bipod soon for it, but it's great to know theres so much customization that can be done to it, and like you said its not too difficult to work on
 
I pigged out on 455’s, 8 or 9. Now I have 4or 5 457’s, all factory original. Shot piles of gophers, Leupold scopes on all but one 455 22 magnum. Used Winchester, Federal, Aguila bulk. Wickedly accurate rifles out of the box. Didn’t need any “upgrades”.

Can't wait to get it out, I got 2 boxes of Federal 22lr when I purchased the rifle.

I've had quite a few birthdays myself over the last couple of years. In fact, if I listen carefully, I'm sure my bank card actually plays "Happy Birthday" every time it comes out of my wallet in a gun shop.
As others have pointed out, it's easy to fall down the CZ 457 rabbit hole. Started out with almost exactly what you have - a nice little 20" American for plinking and pests. It's now living in an MDT ACC chassis with a 24" Varmint heavy barrel and Timney trigger under a Bushnell ED Match Pro 5X30. It shoots very well.
Of course, it's too heavy for shooting gophers so I had to buy a 10/22 clone for that. It seems I'm totally irresponsible when it comes to purchasing rimfires and accessories.
You're going to really enjoy your new purchase. Again, as others have pointed out, don't #### around with cheap, bulk "bucket" ammo. Someone recommend CCI SV which shot very well out of my first iteration and it might be worth trying some Norma Tac 22.
