Bizarre animal behaviors

Why does humans and dogs use scent covers, especially when hunting or when approching a new, prospective mating partner ? It most be working as intended, otherwise the humans or dogs would have stopped this practice of artificially smelling like a flower or poop long ago :)

What I have learned from this discussion is, that most, if not all members of the canine family, dogs, wolves, foxes, coyotes etc, often devour other creatures scat, including humans faeces, as well as the canine's other bisarre behavior of rolling themself in any dung, or in any rotten carcases they come upon.
