BL-22 refinishing project, ideas wanted

Hi all, I am in the middle of refinishing the stock on a '70's BL-22. Its a grade 1 I bought used and the stock showed years of previous use in the form of scratches and dings in the glossy plastic-like finish. I have the finish removed, no easy task, and the parts sanded to perfection. Walnut is a joy to work with. Now trying to decide what to do with it. The easy answer would be a med-dark stain like the originals, with an oil finish. Cant go wrong, classic look, but also nothing unique or unusual. I'm wondering if anyone has any interesting ideas of how I can make this gun unique. Since I'm doing all this work, I'd like it to look different than the run of the mill BL-22's.

So I'm open to ideas, and pics would be great. Seen a gun with unique stain or finish? Post 'em up. Thanks Kindly.
 
Thanks for the info waynewjw, I'll check it out. I'm actually very familiar with how to achieve a beautiful oil finish, as I have been building custom fishing rods with wood grips and real seats for a long time, but my post was actually to see if anyone had any cool or different approaches to finishing a stock. Something out of the ordinary.
Last night my impatience got the best of me and I went ahead and stained the pieces a nice dark walnut colour, pretty close to the typical Browning stain colour. Picking up some fresh polymerized Tung Oil tonight to start the oil process.
 
would love to see pics of it... I have YET to see a refinished stock that has made me go WOW... I really like the factory finish on most guns proudced in the '70s. They had so much warmth and character...

I LOVE my Browning BPS, but the moder satin lifeless looking finish, is one thing that I would change....

I may be getting some old family guns, and something tells me they will need some work, so I'd love to see your results and see if its what I'm looking for!
