BL C2 in cold weather

That is somewhat eye opening...........cartridges chronographed at 70 deg F and shot at -30 F have some significant losses for some powders..........150+ fps losses, while others would still fall within the ES of the load with the same 100 deg F change......interesting !!!

I did a test in one of my 204s I had a few years back because I was missing coyotes at 150-200yds. Not sure the exact load I was using without going way back in my records but I was using BL-C(2) and 35gr Bergers. I had permission on a farm where the guy would feed silage to his animals every day at 8 AM. When it was really cold the cows would get up when they heard the tractor, have a dump and then go eat. The coyotes would then come in and eat the warm manure. I had a ground blind on a small hill about 150yds away and would wait for the coyotes to show. I noticed the longer I sat there in -35 to-40+ weather the more I started to miss. I thought maybe it was the rifle reacting to the prolonged cold but after a few different tests it turned out to be the load. The groups where still decent but the POI would move 4-5 inches in 100yds. I switched to IMR XBR 8208 and have never had an issue again.

Good info, I assume the new group was shooting low?
