Hey guys, just started loading for 308, never had one before!? I had some really good results with BL-C2 with 180gr RN Interlock but I'm all out of powder now. I'm switching to 180 Speer HC and wondering if I should switch to Varget or stay with the BL-C2? Is one better with temp variations then the other? Rifle is a Ruger Scout with the 18" barrel.

I am using Varget. Some prefer the ball powders for metering in powder measures, but since I’m using a Chargemaster it is irrelevant. I also like the extreme powders for temperature insensitivity.

I can never get ES anywhere near as low with ball as I can with extruded. Varget and 168gr in the 308 I can get single digit spreads. Ball I'm content with 50fps spreads.

Varget is hard to beat in the 308. It is not a temperature sesitive powder and works well with a range of bullet weights.

At the end of the day you will have to try the new combo, unfortunetly you are also changing bullets so it will be hard to compare.
They are both good 308 powder choices.
Do you have a chronograph?

in my particular case, RN bullets in 308 shot very well with pretty much any powder whereas the pointy ones... not so much. Speer HotCor included.
I would appreciate you posting your results because I still have about 200 of them HC.

BLC2 is great for dispensing from a measure and can produce very accurate ammo. But for 308 I would chose Varget over BLC2 if I could only keep one of those powders.
