Hello all,Im curious what loads people are using for the Ruger Blackhawk 45 colt? Ive got the 7" barrel using titegroup and 250grn lead bullet. Will the standard colt 45 loads work in this or should i be using the higher load data for ruger,T/C? Im trying to get some accuracy out of this without much luck and was a little nervous about the differance of starting at 5.6 grns or the ruger data at 8grns. would the lighter load data for standard 45 colt be less acurate or dangerous when used in a ruger blackhwk? I have the same gun (mine's a convertible ) and you can use the regular 45 Colt loads with no issues. For accuracy measure your cylinder throats and use bullets sized accordingly. - dan

I always recommend to shoot cast bullets in the appropriate hardness ; sized .002 oversized measured cylinder diameter. For example if my 45 Colt measures .452; I shoot .454 dia.
For plinking loads I use Red Dot or Green Dot powder and regular Large Pistol primers; You can use Promo powder which is cheaper but has no dots.
These powders give scary accuracy ; as clean as any and very economical.
For hunting loads I strongly endorse Power Pistol powder. CLEAN BURN ACCURATE
I reload for three 45 colt firearms.
I hesitate to give powder load figures in open forums but I have run a parcel of powders thru the 45 colt

Keep messing aorund with bullet diameter, different powders, and if need be, venturing up into the Ruger/TC end of the load range. Rugers don't NEED to go there, just that they can. I have brewed up a couple of boomingbangenmuzzlejumpen 300 grain loads from Linebaugh, thinking a trip stateside to try HG hunting. Then, after reading Linebaugh admit that his wife kills bambi just as dead with a standard load as he does with his boomingbangers, I decided to forego the recoil, and focus on sight and trigger! I get good results with a hard SWC out of a Lee mold, nominally 250 gr. Can't recall the load, but it took some time to find where it was happy. Oh, and the wrist-numbing 300gr Linebaugh load is a tack driver, but it would be more fun driving real tacks into your forearm that shooting them!
