i've been looking at the dpms it looks like a great gun and all but it just does't turn my crank i'm wondering what other options i have for a nice black 308?

At the moment, 308 options for black rifles are very sparse. Wait a year or two and there should be more. Oh unless you're enquiring about Robinson products, then I believe the saying is "two more weeks".

I too, did not think much of the DPMS LR-308.

That has changed,, as it seems to get excellent reviews from its users. The price is also quite reasonable. Armalite is over priced,, and so are the Springfield offers. As far as Norinco M305/M14,, well, you have a lot of work ahead of you. The Rock Rivers Arms/Bushmaster product seems plagued with design issues.

Out of the box, the DPMS seems to be the best of the lot. There is a review of the DPMS LR-308B at Sniper Central.

yea i already have a socom m-14 and to be honest m-14s have kinda lost there appeal for me maybe i will get a dpms seems like the only option

looks like this post got hi jacked does't this crap belong in the battle rifle section i'm looking for a black 308 rifle not a m-14 on steroids

I trimmed it.

Currently I would suggest that the .308 "Black" rifle options are the Armalite AR10, and the DPMS.

I have been assured that the new AR10 magazines have fixed the problems of the old ones.
I just bought my old AR10T back from Morpheus32 (well bought it back a while ago -- but just go the transfer and that done)- and will be phone John Hipwell up (well in two months on the next leave block) for 10 mags and a S&B 4-16 PMII for it.

When it had the 24" bbl - it was hovering around 1MOA
It was cut back and recrowned - it is now easily submoa capable when I do my thing.
I replaced the Armalite "Match" trigger at the same time with a KAC one -- so I am not sure if the trigger was the only reason for the group shrinkage.

The only other option is to get someone to bring the FAMAE-made SG54x rifles here which comes in either 5.56(540) or 7.62(542)..... but it's gonna be hard as FAMAE is probably not willing to export those...... hope that someone will managed to pull it off as it is the only alternative to the M1A/M305 that is neither prohibited or restricted in Canuckistan:

I've never really liked the caliber of ar-15's (5.56, .223) but I must admit KevinB has customised a formidable tactical tool that any professional would be proud to use. I see no flaws with it and it would seem that he followed the kiss rule (keep it simple stupid). If I only had the cash to build something like that!

p.s. I forgot to mention that KevinB's tool is a ar-10 (7.62, .308), I don't want to be eaten alive!
