Hey Wendell - thanks very much for posting this thread.
I'm Sean Hansen.
If anyone is interested, email me (email address below) and I'll send you the complete info package via email to register.
Experience and knowledge - AHiltz nailed it.
The certification course assumes you have the basics of marksmanship and familiarity with your gun and it's goal is to prep you to shoot IPSC matches.
Our qualifying guideline for marksmenship is being able to hit a regular (8.5" by 11") piece of paper with every shot you fire, using two hands - with no time limit at 20 yards.
If you can do that, you're good on the marksmanship side.
For knowledge, we expect you'll be familiar with your gun - you'll be proficient in operating any safeties it has, the mag release, the slide stop, etc.
These things usually take a year from getting a gun, but there have been people who are exceptions and are ready in a few months.
If you don't have these basics, you'll find the weekend challenging as the instructors don't have the the time to teach you them and you'll get left behind.
Often someone like that then gets discouraged and doesn't come back, so it's best that you don't try until you're ready.
We don't allow raw lead ammo for the course as there's a lot of shooting going on in the indoor range and while the ventilation is good; a bunch of people making big clouds in the same short time can't be overcome by the fans.
Again, this is all about certifying people to shoot IPSC matches - we're looking for match participants.
Once you pass, you can come do this...
