So i was looking at Black Badge course, thinking of doing it next year. My concern is the PITA it will be to travel to the range from where i live. Having to get ATT to travel there, staying in hotels, 1 night travel, then while attending the course. Anyone else find the process difficult?

The process of getting your BB is not difficult. Because of your geographical location you have a lot more to deal with, than the guy who can just drive down the road to the range and drive home at the end of the day. Thunder Bay? That's almost the North Pole isn't it?
Sometimes in the winter it sure feels like the north pole!!! The course itself looks amazing, its the fact the i would have to get paperwork to drive to it, spending a night in a hotel while travelling, then another couple of nights in a different one during course. Just the thought of dealing with the ON CFO for this gives me a headache.
I don't believe you have to deal with the CFO at all. You will need an ivitation to attend from the host club, but that should be all you need if you are doing the class in Ontario.
ETA: assuming you already have an ATT of course.

It sucks having to commute and deal with an Inconvenient set up.
Put that out of your mind. Take the black badge course and you will really enjoy it.
It's fun and you learn alot. Even if you decide not to keep shooting ipsc you will have a nice black badge pin and will be a better shooter for it.

IMO, the BB course is a beginning rather than an event. I thoroughly enjoyed my course and while challenged by it, felt to was a real accomplishment that I was proud of. It is of course the key to future participation in the matches and they are a reward that can go on for a lifetime. I like everything about IPSC including the fact that I can participate when I travel. So for me USPSA and the other games go on all winter. The bonus to IPSC membership that isn't that obvious to many is the fellowship of the shooting sports. If you are an IPSC shooter or a member of the other disciplines, you have 100's of friends you haven't met yet in towns and cities all over the continent. Good luck and have fun. The prizes are worth the investment in time and money.

As long as you have a LTATT from your club all you need is a letter of invitation from the hosting club and you are good to go. An instructor from S.Ont goes up to Sudbury once a yr to run a course.Unfortuntatly he just ran one a couple weeks ago. If you are really keen on getting your badge there are several being held in southern Ont in the next few weeks.
Well then, next year may be the time to do it then. I just purchased first pistol in July, 22.lr. I put a deposit on a 9mm yesterday at my local gun store. I'll have to look whether they will have one going here in TBay at all. I was looking forward to travelling and meeting new people though..haha.

I am getting M&P 9mm range kit. I am currently shooting M&P 22.lr. I already have a blackhawk holster for 22 that will also work with the 9mm. Range kit comes with mag holder however will most likely purchase another mag holder when i pick up a 4th mag for it. It's interesting come home from MN with holsters and mag holders...CBSA always asks...you a cop? Nope, i sport shoot...they look at me like i'm nuts!! hahaha
You will find yourself wanting five mag pouches. I take five loaded mags to line in pouches and a sixth "stripper" mag ina pocket. You won't need five too often, but there will be times. Stuff happens and you wouldn't be the first to fumble and drop one. Look around and you will see that many avoid double vertical pouches.
