Black bayo SKS

Black paint was used during refurbishing. Anything that didn't look so good got painted, ie: Rust.

The bayonets were re-blued or some such during refurbishment. It's not the BBQ type black paint you see touching up the barrels and gas tubes on some of the more dinged up examples. There's also a gold bayonet on some SKS, similar treatment to the 'gold bolt' SVT's that you see occasionally. I picked up an Izzy with the black bayonet to set aside for my daughter when she's old enough. To the OP, look around, not everyone charges a premium for something that's really not all that special or unique. There are enough around. When I picked up my last two Canadian Tire had all three bayonet colours on the shelf for the identical price...

A rifle with black paint shoots just as good as any sks rifle and will not let you down. That said, if you're a collector of non refurb or unissued rifles, these are not under any circumstances collector items.

Nope, not paint, these are the nicest blued SKS I have seen same color all over the rifle and the finish is phenomenal! I got the last 2 at the Freddy CTC and even those ( last of the picked over) are beautiful! I have a 49 from Westrifle that has what looks like not great bluing or more likely paint, and another 1955 from weimejack that looks like spots are painted but these are flawless bluing, I hope someone local get another crate from this refurb factory, I would like a couple more! Oh yes, I paid the same price as the grey color Bayo!

Not everything surrounding SKS ownership has to do with collector status. Black bayos look nice. Period. So people want them.

Yep, that was the case with me, I went out of my way to get a black one to go with my tapco. I also keep one stock. I love the history of the rifle but I don't collect. For me the SKS is a good cheap rifle that's a great shooter

You're absolutely correct. I was simply making the distinction of what has added value as a collection piece and what does not. For a decent reliable shooter, it makes no difference at all.

The rule is if there is rust anywhere on the rifle bayo it got painted. It is simple way to fix a problem. If the rifle is pulled from storage black paint got cleaned and bayo polished by soldier.

Some people might consider paying extra for a blued bayo ...

My bayo doesn't look painted at all.
it looks like they dunked it in blueing for sure.
This pic might be a bit dark to get a good shot of the difference though.

My at1 , yeppers a number one, has the black bayonet. Looks friggin cool. I wish I bought a couple of them when the local gun shop got them. Don't care if they are refurbs, looks awesome!

I don't have a black painted bayo. Mine is blued/black.

Mine too, this is not paint! To me, they look much better than the silver colored ones! BUT I like them ALL!

I have had two with black paint and a few that are black chrome. I have also removed the chrome on some and blued them and they turned out looking similar to the black chrome ones. Very nice, but there are black painted ones out there.
