Black bear caliber

44 mag is the perfect caliber... JP.

I have a 44 magnum Ruger Deerfield Carbine. Cool little rifle. Kills Deer at close range quite dead. But for use on Black Bear? Well it does have 5 shots on tap. ;)

I'm just an old guy trying to help.
If you buy a 45-70 you might regret it.
It is a thumper on both ends.
I had 2 of them and I could not take the recoil.
I had a Marlin 1895 and a Baikal double rifle.
Get a 30-06 or better yet a 308 Winchester.
Not a black bear that they won't kill.
I had no problem with the recoil of my 338 Magnum.

Anything you would use for deer is fine for Black Bear. They are not difficult to kill.
I have shot a dozen or so with a 6mm Remington and the 95 or 100 Partition.
The 30-06 or 8x57 are great insurance rounds, and will work well. The 45-70 is
more than enough medicine for Blackie. The OP's list is all good. D.

Just take the 30-30 and move on.
It's not considered the ideal black bear caliber for nothing.

so, bud69, what did you choose and why did you choose that cartridge?
Did you cut a tag are there pictures?
