Black Bear Gall Bladder and Paws...

I seem to recall raeding somewhere that a bear gall bladder is a prohibitted item. Can't tell you where I read it, can't find it again, and am not 100% sure I understood what I read at the time either. It does kind of seem contrary to the make use of as much of the game animal as you can.

So, tagged, and waiting for someone in the know.:)

If you legally take black bear in alberta, does anyone know if it's alright to give the paws and gall bladder to someone who also resides in Alberta.

Thanks

I gave bear fat to a native elder. Kept the gall for myself. Haven't done anything with it yet. Made soup from the paws even though I couldn't find the traditional recipe.

I think giving is legal. Selling or bartering in any way is not.

In BC you are not even permitted to be in posession of the gallbladder,..it must be left with the gutpile...or if gutted at home,..destroyed within 48 hours...

Years ago in Sask you could sell the gall bladder but you needed to get a permit from the fish cops. Tie it off and dunk it in boiling water a few times to kind of cook the skin then hang it and let it air dry from what I remember.

I used to be in the gall trade--up until '87 it was legal in Ontario. Now it is illegal in On to posess bear gall.
Speaking of which, has anyone on here ever sold a $100 gall? I don't mean' a guy I know' or a 'friend of a friend'. I mean actually seen money change hands at that price.
I sold more bear galls in 1979 than anyone on here would believe and that wasn't my best year. I've sold galls in New York--Virginia--Florida and California--Hong Kong and Guadong and Kowloon. I have yet to see a $100 gall. It's all hype.

Bear Gall is used in traditional chinese pharmachology to treat various liver aliments. Its a Yin and Yang thing. They actually keep bears in captivity with tubes into thier gall bladders to collect it--even though it can be syntheticly produced.
Bear galls, once in-country' in China are worth a fortune.
