Not for me either, Ive seen very few bears that didnt have worms between there hide and meat. In Alberta there is now law regarding retaining the meat, just the hide. We use the carcass to shoot wolves off of.

Same with SK. Only have to retain the hide by law.

sometimes the law is not right ... there is no need to feed the antis. im pretty sure around you some will like that fresh meat.

Never seen worms between the hide and meat, the ones I worry about are Trichinella spirilosis, found in muscle tissue. Nasty things if they get into your body. Can't see them by casual examination and cooking well supposedly destroys them, but I figure, why take a chance.

VERY nice bear!

Whether a fellow likes his bear made into pepperoni or roast, a bear that size has lots of good eating on him.

And yes, bear eaters do need to be aware of trichinosis, but that's as easy as cooking your might right through. People do it with pork and chicken all the time...

My wife's favourite game meat is bear, especially roasts, stews and sausage. She encourages me to shoot them.

I've taken two that weighed 400+lbs and several smaller. None were wormy and because they were shot with a 50-70, we ate right up to the bullet hole.

None were "dump" bears. Trichinosis is not only a concern with bear meat, but with venison as well.

Thanks gentlemen, It was a great hunt and a nice break from "work". Most likely the last black bear I ever shoot, It seems these days I get more enjoyment out of seeing others take great animals, rather than myself..... well for the most part. Both of our bears are at a taxi getting done up. Mine will be a rug and hers will be a full body.
