Black Creek Labs - update Feb 20

So I got myself one of those short barreled bolt action rifles. Tried to put the bolt in, didn't work. Read the manual, nothing. Found that card "Quick starter guide"

It says to turn the seer out of the pivot. "If you can't do it by hand, use a vice". Nobody can do this by hand let me tell you that. Now you want me to put my bolt firmly into a vice? What if I break it?

Now I have to go to a gunsmith to do this for me, you jokers?

For a new gun????

Put some rubber around it and use vice grips with those noodle arms.

I am not a rookie. Personal attacks seem to be the main spare time activity of some. I own antique guns I take apart and make small parts. Don't have many bolt action rifles, and this was the first one with "assembly required" instructions. As posted, I figured it out eventually and would only take me a minute next time. But not by hand (it actually is much more lose now) and not with a vice. The tip with the leather belt above is excellent.

Having said that, I noticed 2 other things:

1. 2 of the small top rail bolts were not tightened properly. I could turn them another 1/8. When watching some youtube videos, this seems to be common.
2. The bolt handle was scratched, some minor and deeper gauge. I used steel wool and re blued that area.
3. Yes it comes with another spring for the firing pin. 2 pages in the manual only to use high quality ammo. OMG. Should have bought a CZ 600 Trail.

QC appears to lag.

Sorry for your pain. Don't discount the CZ 600 Trail just because you already have the BCL. Buy the Trail despite the BCL and to get what you want! I am really digging mine thus far.....

That setup looks pretty slick my friend. Wish they would come out with a caliber I could hunt with in Alberta, like 6.5 Grendel.

After briefly owning a BCL 102 I'll never buy another BCL again. I hate bashing any company and anyone on the fence should so some reading. I have to agree with OP. I still have some spare BCL parts for BCL102 if anyone still has one!

Thanks! I'm gonna start looking into getting a .300 Blk Barrel spun up this coming week. The Lugs are integrral to the Barrel Extension, so we shall se how difficult it will be to either replicate or swap over the Extension. Watch and shoot....

Your post prompted me to check it out, slick, and I seen this in case you hadn't see the issues / re-call. CZ-USA - CZ 600 Recall

Actually now I don't think that the bolt assembly was dropped. The damage on the underside looks as if it was dragged and then caught up on something, otherwise a gouge could never happen.

I also found issue #3:

3. The bolt release catch is moody. At first I thought because it is new but it is rather getting worse than better. You have to push that thing in a certain way, otherwise you just can't. Bad machining, too much play, don't know.

I am well aware of the CZ USA Recall. I find it both interesting and humorous that the US branch of CZ felt it necessary to "dumb-down" their version of the Trail rifle by eliminating the Switch-Barrel capability, whereas CZ Europe evidently did not. My CZ Europe Trail has a spot of Red paint on the end of each Barrel Retention Bolt, but that's it in terms of a "warning" against further disassembly. The European manual cautions against disassembly beyond removal of the Bolt from the Receiver and field-stripping of the Bolt itself, but that's it - no epoxy or other means of discouraging Barrel swaps by "qualified armourers", whoever they might be. Perhaps it is just me, but I find it hilarious that CZ USA felt a recall was warranted because incorrect assembly of the rifle was possible, despite clear instructions in the original manual for correct reassembly of the firearm. In other words, they paid for a national recall to epoxy all of the Barrel Retention Bolts on the off-chance that some sausage-fingered, mouth-breather forgets how it is done and reassembles the rifle such that it fires out of battery. Unbelievable, but I reckon that is the litigious USA for ya....

Most of the attraction of the Trail for me is the switch-calibre capability. Take that away, and my interest in a .223/5.56mm-only rifle quickly fades. I want to be able to mix it up with .300 Blk, and maybe even some calibres requiring a different Quick-Change Bolt-Head. Why not? After all, that was half the point of the 600 series in the first place! CZ USA are kill-joy nerds. CZ Europe? Not quite so much!

Thanks for the details, I didn't realize that the recall was that old. From what I see they've ditched the switch barrel idea and are only going fixed caliber due to the recall. I seen this in some articles so maybe not, or maybe mainly for the US market.

On the BLC front, I'd be pretty disappointed if I picked up a new bolt action and was told the same. My past with them was hit and miss, but this many years later I'm hesitant on their new products . . .

What are the dimensions of the barrel?

I have a blank intended for an AR that I'm not using.

Update here: BCL reached out to me and asked a few specific questions. Those led me to believe that the retailer (sponsor here) may be to blame and BCL offered direct assistance. I must say that the retailer I bought this rifle from was suspected by me before (from previous purchases) for not selling BNIB firearms to unsuspected online buyers. I approached them at the time and their furious reaction does not make me very compelled to approach them again but rather deal with BCL directly.

So, who was the selling dealer?
