Gotta love surplus ammo, always a surprise.

Came out of the standard green wooden boxes, paper cartridge box marked with a Green "G", and the date stamp on the cartridge base was 73.

Magnetic bullet also so I assume steel core like the rest.

Point of impact was noticeably lower then the regular copper wash stuff.
Also strong ammonia smell when used.

Anyone see this stuff before?

No it is just regular M43 ball. They were experimenting with ways of making it cheaper. I have seen at least 3 different types in 1973 alone.

Good for the cartridge collectors!
No point in having a million rounds in your collection, and them all being the same.;)

That is interesting. Has any one had a mixed case? When I opened my case, the top few boxes had the black ammo and the remanider was copper/green. As I recall it was '77 vintage.

I figured it was just tarnished, but perhaps I got a mixed lot.
