Black Foot Elk Hunting

I have and it gives you a good chance of a nice elk.The one I shot was 8 miles from the parking area so took a while to get it out.Only seen two other hunters there in two weeks. The elk cross back and forth between the grazing area and the park all the time. If you are close to the fence you will see lots of big bulls in the park making you wish for a pair of wire cutters. One of the park employees told me where to find the elk one day and they were right there the next morning.

Sweet I have a friend with Horses that is willing to take me in there with his horses i'm just going to give him a Quarter of Elk I think thats a Heck of Deal...

Yep simple as that. Go for a horsey ride and shoot an elk:rolleyes:

Keep in mind that there are other active seasons (general whitetail and LEH moose)going on in there as well as native hunting. After the first couple of days it gets tough. It is much thicker than it was 10 years ago and they don't just hang around fields in the daylight. You have an advantage of getting back in quicker, but once they are in the thick brush its a tough hunt.

It is a worth while hunt and you will enjoy it, but don't be divying up that elk just yet.

Don't forget that if you are drawn you have to travel out there and take a safety course as well.

Good Luck

Blackfoot

This was my second time in there. I spent 5 days there trying to get a cow elk this November and came home without. The first time, five years ago, I got one within 30 minutes of opening.
I did have two great chances at two big bulls on two separate days but no bull tags were with me. I had the scope up and watched them hoping the cows were in behind, but it was only the two bulls each time.
The guy I was with shot a spike bull five minutes after opening on the first morning just as he was going into the trees from the field, but he was alone, and no cows with him, so I didn't get a chance to shoot as well.
I talked to the warden and there is no openings for the elk to go from the park into the reserve. There is an 8' fence with yellow signs every 100 ft. or so, so the border between the two is well marked.
Hope it goes well.
