Black/green rifles to be prohibited soon???

If theres another school or workplace shooting involving handguns or semi-autos, I wouldn't be surprised to see the 3 opposition parties gang up and try to pass gun control legislation while the CPC is the minority government.

Buy what you want, shoot it responsibly and convince 2 others to join you.

We'll all be the better off for it.

FWIW, if Mr Harper's lawsuit is successful the liberals are about have problems a bit closer to home than coming up with another $2 Billion for Gun Registration redux; like, say, remaining solvent as a financial entity.

My feelings on some of the scenario's posted - If you take my Firearms from me after I have jumped every hurdle that has been thrown at me to remain a law abiding citizen and a gun owner in this country. I, along with many others I am sure, will do whatever is necessary to obtain the means to protect myself and my family.

A complete gun ban in this country would do nothing more than cause a large, motivated, well organized group of highly skilled, talented, and intelligent people to completely lose faith in their government and their country. On top of that, shutting down industry, businesses, and putting thousands out of work.

I also believe that in this country they could not "sieze" your legally obtained personal property. I think even the anti's would have a problem with that.

As far as I am concerned I think we may see changes and more restrictions in the future (most likely concerning the color black and anything with a spring). However, a complete ban.....I'm not so sure on that. I think we are going to win this thing yet.

Not to mention triggering a rash of "brake ins" and guns being "stolen" just last week, right when the RCMP come a knocking......

I'll sink them in lake Ontario in a pelican case then give them up.

y'all weren't around when they seized the c/a stens back in the 90's via oic, were you-the locals came by and took , and then were sent to the rcmp testing lab- and the uzi's as well- tried to prove that they could still fire full auto using non-standard"soft" ammo- we had to get a judge to make them use 9mm standard ammo- long story short, the stens were destroyed, the uzi's not- they would have been if the rcmp was allowed to use that"special" ammo-belive what you like, but the government can and will seize private property if it suits them- and there's nothing harder to get than a c/a legally- it worked like this if i remember correctly: you got a registered letter saying you had to surrender the gun at the local police headquarters within 15 or 30 days or they would come and get it, with a seizure warrant- i don't remember if there were ramifications if they had to come out and get it, but the bottom line is you lost the gun

Was there any compensation or did anybody sue for losses?

as i recall, no comp and the suits were either withdrawn due to lack of funds ( basically the gov't starved the complaintent out) - remember the sten was only a 300 buck gun at the time- the uzi went for 550- hardly worth the lawyer fees- one company went as far as the scoc with the appeal and was refused to even hear the case

The difference between confiscation and grandfathering here is that they only went after the easy targets for confiscation. They only confiscated the firearms that not many people had. It was also alot more hard for people to organize back then. People didn't have a central site like GCN to get together.

The more people that can get organized, the harder it is for the government to take stuff away.

If black/green, any firearm itself is to be prohibited in the future, no one will be getting any special class, because they will only move the current ones into an existing class and say that you don't have that class and you are now illegally owning a prohibited rifle.

I would have thought that given the amounts, it would be a small claims court matter but if the judge would not hear it, how would one follow through?

This reminds me of during WW2, when the Japanese Canadians were interned where they lost their home and possessions simply because of their ethnicity. I am sure that most Canadians didn't have an issue with the interns at the time of war.

It seems like 'we' are being marginalized because of our hobby and interests given that politically charged environment we live in today.

as far as i know if a judge won't hear it, you're basically screwed- and since this was taken as far as the scoc, it sets precedence - basically, once it got past the first appleate court, it was a lost cause

Back in those days there was no CGN or internet. It will be different next time.

with 10000 plus members we could easily fund a mass suit against whomever wants to #### with us and flood them with enough letters to fill a virtual grand canyon

edit: holy crap we're over 30k members now, been a while since I looked eh :)

If they came for my guns I would just say: "I;m sorry guys, I don't own any guns, the gun registry must be wrong"

And when they tear your house apart looking to check your story, what will you say? Or what about if they charge and prosecute you for violating firearms laws, etc.?
I hope it doesn't come to this, and I doubt it will, but giving smart-ass answers to the cops, as much fun as it sounds, might not be enough.

A friend at the range told me military rifles were likely to become prohibited in a very near future. He was talking about a possible new law coming around September....
