So we all know how important proof marks are regaurding modern ammo but what about going the other way. How much black powder can safely be set off in certain loads in modern guns? I shoot reduced black powder loads in a couple vintage sxs guns and im into muzzleloader rifles for hunting which got me thinking of loading some black powder loads to use in modern guns.
Obviously 3 dram loads are safe as modern smokeless shells for trap are often 3 dram equivalent. My 10ga shells state 4 dram and i believe ive had 4.5 dram 10ga loads.
What would be the max load as im looking for something different for turkey season? Figure id start with 1oz of #6 copperplated shot and move up in weight and load untill i find a load i like to send towards a swamp chicken.
My 1/2 oz loads pattern beautifully over 50grs of black for skeet and bunny hunting but id like to extend the range for turkey
