black powder availability

I am hoarding my last cans of swiss ffffg is there any in Canada in particular the west. Would consider using any black powder, my Shutzens do not like BP substitutes
 
Find a place in the USA just across the southern border with Alberta and buy your Swiss there. No export difficulties with BP on the USA side and also no import problems on the Canadian side. You are allowed, I believe 8 Kg's each trip for each adult in the vehicle but it has to be in 1 lb. cans or containers, not in bulk. I paid $18.95 for Swiss and $12.95 for Goex the last time across. If you can get close to that in Canada then buy here. Dave
 
There is an outfit in Senlac Sask. called Hillfolk, they supply Swiss, Goex, and Wano, also possibly Raynor Shine, they both make the gunshow circuit in Alta. and Sask., call 'em first and maybe you can meet up with them at one of the shows. Dantforth is right, it is much less exp. down in the USA,esp. with the strong Cd. dollar, might try Havre or Great Falls. Remember, once you try black you'll never go back!

I stopped at the US side when I went over to pick out my muzzleloading rifle. The guy advised that M/L rifles and black powder are exempt from their export rules. I would not want you to go without doing the same with your US side. I am sure of the pricing...as of last fall at my source...and of the Canadian regulations that I quoted. I asked my Canadian dealer and he advised that "if" he could get Swiss it would at least be in the $40.00 plus range per pound. I am going over next Wednesday and am going to attempt to buy some more. My local source also charges $30.00 for Goex.

Trevj.....I lost your thought somewhere. I am only trying to help here. I actually looked up Wholesale Sports and they don't even list BP on their web site. My reasoning for going stateside is twofold....1 - it is much cheaper and 2 - it is always in stock. Most times I am unable to get it here within 100 miles. Dave
 
I don't believe any of the "suppliers" on the top of this page carry black powder, I know WSS does not, and i don't believe P & D in Edmonton stocks it. It is hard to round up here in Canada and very expensive when you do. Stateside is the way to go if you're near enough.
 
I just want to get to the bottom of this because I go there often, Wholesale Sports? P & D? Selling black powder?? I don't think so, most outfits in Canada don't handle it because of the storage and transportation requirements.....and associated costs drive the price up,add the mark-up to it, and there's just not enough money to be made for most retailers. It's unfortunate that we "true believers" have to go far afield for our Swiss or Goex, or settle for largely experimental and inferior smokeless powders.
 
I got Goex at Lock and Load, in Edmonton.

They had lots.

Was right around $25 a tin. Call ahead, if you are making a trip.

So has anyone seen swiss around, bought a can of goex and swiss puts it to shame especially in a shutzen
 
Contact the Alberta black powder association I buy mine by the 25 pound keg 17 per pound for cans 15 for loose drop me a pm for contact info they may not be bringing it in for ever nows the time to buy a couple of kegs
