I load black powder cartridges for my Pedersoli Sharps...I have heard talk that these cartridges degrade in accuracy after a few weeks...something to do with the wad or bullet lube....any comments???

I've never had a problem.....suppose it could happen if lube can migrate to powder. I used cardboard wads for years, now use vegetable fibre....guess its probly important to have proper size wads....

I've never had a problem either, I use Black Powder lube and veg. fibre wads. I suppose you could have a problem if you stored ammo in very warm conditions and your wad was not a good tight fit.

longknife I would worry more if I was paper patching with a grease cookie and storing them bullet up in a warm atmosphere.
If you are shgooting Grewase
Grooves and storing bullet down you will be all right have shot bullets that were two years old and no problems.

BP cartridge degrading

Thanks for the input, folks....

I use the Wonder Wads which are a lubed felt....they are a damn tight fit after I seat the bullets as it is a compressed load...
I have about 100 rds. which I loaded in the late spring...the rifle is at my stock makers for a new piece of claro walnut....so will try the carts. out when I get the gun back...
