Has anybody ever tried messing around using black powder in modern firearms cartridges ???? In my case, it would be specficially used in a 44 mag revolver and a 44 mag lever gun. I've got no particular reason for trying this other than just to try something different.

Has it been done before or is this a huge no no ????

I used the .44 Mag. with Black Powder for Cowboy Action shooting, it works well, use a slightly compressed load of black powder, a soft cast bullet, lubed with black powder lube and your good to go. In a revolver, it made for a very nice and heavy "BOOM" compared to others using light .38 Special smokeless loads.

"...and Special were..." The .44 Special was introduced by S&W in 1907 as a smokeless cartridge. Never was loaded with BP.
"...just to try something different..." Lot of extra cleaning with BP. Corrosive stuff too.

I have fired a pile of 45LC using blackpower. VERY dirty, but no issues beyond this.

A friend has used blackpowder in 45ACP with no issues as well.
