Since I bought a TC Encore, I have'nt touched my BP supply in 4 or 5 years. I have a few cans of FFg and FFFg. Does time effect BP quality? It has been stored cool and dry this whole time.

I have examined BP from .577" Enfield ML and Snider ctgs made in the 1860s and it seemed fine. Have fired BP ammo made in the 1880s. BP if kept cool and dry has a very long shelf life unlike some smokeless poeders.

Shouldn't be a problem, as green said.
I used some original Snider ammo to decimate a few 'chucks about 40 years ago, it was 1871 issue IIRC.
No hangfires, no missfires, but hard on the azz after my Old Man
found out!!

If stored like you say,, BP will last pretty well indefinately. I have a can of 4f that is going on about 30 years old. I only use this to prime a flintlock and use very little per year. It still sparks up as good as new.

Black powder

So if your not using it, you might as well get rid of it right?:) I happen to know another guy in Saskatchewan who does use it!

Sounds like the time I took out dad's unfired Winchester 101 in 20g to test it out. Two rounds later he found me and we went ten rounds together.....I lost.

I turn the can once in a while to keep the dust mixed in the powder. My FF is about 10 years old, works great.
Your shootin' stories remind me of a fella I knew who fired 2 boxes of ammo thru his Dad's 9 mm Walther. When his Pop found out, he calmly said to the boy that he'd have to replace the ammo. AND IT BETTER BE ORIGINAL NAZI EAGLE HEADSTAMP LIKE THE STUFF HE'D BROUGHT BACK FROM THE WAR!

ouch

I'll bet you booked a flight to Berlin right quick .....;) :D

At least you were given a chance to correct your error. I was thrown into the ring and didn't even have my gloves on........
