I cannot find real black power in the Ottawa area other than one pound of goex F. I was thinking of trying
triple 7 , pyrodex or jim shockeys black power substitutes. I already have these for my black power guns.
I was doing some research on load data and found an article that says not to compress BP substitutes but not to leave any gap either or the pressure will be to high. When I load my muzzle loader the power does get compressed from the ram rod. Maybe it is different when loading a cartridge.

I have had good results with the Lyman 457125 bullet over 14 gr of Unique with a dacron craft batting 1" square lightly compressed on top of the powder. This does not give the accuracy that black powder is capable of but for under 300 yds it is quite acceptable.
