Black Rifle Build Question

I have been a member on this site now for a few months and never really had an urge to build a black rifle. But after looking in the EE and talking to several people at my club with Ar's I am thinking that I just have to have one now.

I was curious in the difficulty to build them since I have no prior experience with them. Is as easy as buying a complete lower and upper and slapping them together???
Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

Agreed - plus, there is still LOTS you can change afterward. Like stocks, grips, rails, optics, etc... putting together a stripped lower/upper is not tough, but not much fun if you don't have the right tools or anyone to help you out. The pins can be a PITA, and you're not really saving anything as far as cost.

That's true, but especially once you factor in the parts needed (Barrel wrench, receiver vise block, etc.) you're not saving any money.

It's up to you - if you want the 'experience', build one. If you want a well put-together one without scratches from screwing up a roll pin on the install - just buy one! :D
 
Putting one together is not that difficult with the right tools and a little bit of knowledge.

getting the parts for it will be the trick. And knowing what you want on your first build.

I am collecting parts, it has taken about three months and I am not even close to complete, and I am not talking about dressing it up. nor do I have anything out of the ordinary. (armalite lower, two stage trigger, stag upper, magpul parts)

plus I did not know at the start what exactly I needed/wanted. Things like a new charge handle with ambi catch, ambi mag release, ambi safety ect.

If I was to do it again, I would have bought a complete lefty stag and then started buying parts for the build I wanted. In the end ending up with two very nice ARs. That way I would be shooting already (the whole point of owning a gun) and waiting on all the "extras"

Yes, it is. The two go together without tools, in seconds. Separating the upper and lower halves is part of routine cleaning.

All the other comments apply to assembling the gun from parts.
 
I didn't build my own AR but I had so much fun accessorizing it. I bought a Stag Arms rifle from ArmsEast and quickly went to work customizing it. I added my preferred optics as well as railed handguards, tactical light, and a vertical grip amongst a few other things. Later I will look into getting a new trigger and maybe a Magpul stock.
