Non-Restricted, Restricted, AR-15, PWS AR-15, Robinson Arms......I've been reading and researching and reading and reading. And now I'm lost:( I had my mind and heart set on a PWS AR-15 MK116 but I just can't convince myself to take the plunge and have to deal with registering the rifle and being confined to where and when I can shoot the gun. And that's just alot of money for a rifle I can shoot as much as a handgun. Then part of me worries about the AR platform being in the next round of RCMP trying to make law abiding citizens criminals by prohibiting them under the table.

So I've got myself mostly convinced on something on a kinda AR similar platform. Which got me talking with a guy I worked with who brought up the Robinson Arms XCR-L and the XCR-M. Which lead to a whole new round of researching and reading and.....you get the point. But I keep coming across several reviews of FTF and FTE and picky on ammo among sub par MOA which I know for a battle style carbine might be accepted to some degree but it's hard to say. Now I know there have been afew models and changes made to the XCR platform. Can someone give me a no holds barred honest review on the XCR in its vasious models. I would also be interested in afew models in the Non-Restricted category. I want something customizable but something versitile at the same time. Something good for prone shooting to a reasonable distance for their caliber as well as shooting on the move.

PLEASE HELP!!

sounds like the same question asked time and time again, you will get people who say different things.

I am in the same boat as you right now and the HK sl8 seems like the perfect candidate (i actually like the thumbhole stock) the good thing about guns is resale value so if you dont like it sell it and try something different

In all honesty its really not that bad. So you can't shoot out in the woods or hunt with it. Where i live I can't even shoot my non restricted long guns here anyways. So get a membership at a local range and you ltatt will cover you going to any other registered ranges and it comes with no time restrictions, at least mine didn't. Go take the plunge and get an AR15. The more out there the better.
Just my humble thought

once you get an ar15 in your possession all your worries will melt away. there are plenty of good non restricted black rifles available as well. in my opinion the XCR is a great choice for you

I can understand what you mean.......I personally would not purchase a restricted rifle as there are so many other options out there . I have restricted handguns as I had no other choice , if I wanted to shoot hand guns.....I had to go restricted . With a rifle......you do not need to go restricted as there are other options....

I totally agree....but what would be the best options out there...some obvious choices are the XCR and the HL8, I'm still kinda new to the modern military styled rifles so honestly a list of non-restricted is what would be ideal. I like the styling of the XCR but honestly the reviews kinda put me off, don't get me wrong I know that with the internet you will find good with bad but can anyone give me some good?

the sl8 is fun until you own one and realize its pretty much a bench rest gun. IMO it is not a carry around the woods gun like the xcr is. my tavor,vz58 and xcr are all great carry around the bush guns

Depending on your budget.....the SG-542 reminds me of the old FN FAL battle rifle and would be my choice of a 308 Tact. Style Rifle , they are around 3000 dollars . I currently have a couple of Ruger Mini 14s that I use for every day shooters , one is fitted with an after market adjustable Tact. Stock and is a pretty tough rifle for everyday use at a pretty good price.....having non-restricted opens your rifle to alot more uses than a restricted rifle does . Just my preference and personal opinion.....

ar15 is the best way to go if you dont care for it being restricted, after that, Benelli MR1, XCR, and ACR with 18 inch barrel is next best thing. hard to beat the ar15. I tried myself to find something better and I owned, Mr1 (awesome bush gun), vz58 good gun and I never bothered to try a xcr as the price is high and acr needs a unrestricted barrel. best bush gun is a shotgun or get a permit and carry a pistol..?

Oh, I didn't mean the XCR was next, I just mean it this really gets out of hand I think the XCR will probably go before the AR.
AR is already half way there, XCR is still NR. But with that being said the XCR will never be as accurate as an AR or other black rifle because of the barrel retention method

I've looked at the Isreali Arms Tavor but again I'm tryin to avoid the restricted category, I have shot and am very impressed with the close quarters breach style platform they have come out with and balance the balance is near perfect

What Canadiansurvivor said! Thats why it is so popular in canada!

Has 18.5" barrel, and overall length exceeds the minimum length of 26". This = Non Restricted status for the Tavor

Only the short barreled models (CTAR 15" barrel) are restricted.

Also the american version (tavor sar-21, ours are from israel and named tar-21) is restricted due to a barrel length of 16" or 18".
