Black Rifle Pickle

Serious needs/features/benefits evaluation needed. What are you going to use it for and how often. You looking for resale, collection, competition, plinking or a serious working gun.

+1 for the LMT.

My DI version has 1000's of rounds through it with no hiccups and only light cleaning.

I've put some mall ninja bits on it and sadly I bought it when prices weren't so attractive as they are now.

LMT's are worth every penny.

Buy that Noveske 13.7' Infidel Upper w/ Vltor VIS 12' monolithic upper that Questar has then pick up an Alberta Tactical lower. Pick the stock and grip of your choice and you will have a fantastic rifle. The Noveske and ATRS lower fit together absolutely perfect. It is like they were made for each other. No movement between the two at all. It wouldn't be cheap but you would love it. :D

Get the LMT. A proven carbine at an (now) attractive price. Have shot mine extensively and have had no failures or breakages. The fit and finish is top notch.

Personally, I am not a fan of mix-and-match rifles - sometimes they work well, sometimes they don't so I stick to factory configurations. Plus, I am a picky bastard when it comes to colour matching :p

I've sold three LMT's (one Defender, one MRP 16", one MWS .308), two Stag Arms, a Norc, a Colt upper, and God knows how many other parts.

Only thing I've kept was KAC.

That being said, aside from the barrels, Noveske guns aren't that interesting. Of the brands you listed, I would pick up a LMT MRP in whatever length you'd like.

My intent for this rifle is going to be a workhorse rifle used for carbine courses. I'm looking for reliability during adverse conditions and high round counts. Basically, I want a top teir rifle that I can put through hell. I love using my CZ for that, but .223/5.56 have its own attractiveness.

At this point, looking at what the LMT comes with standard, I'd one to add a few things, like BCM charging handle, single point sling adapter (Magpul, or QD? That's another thread. lol), flip up sights, so with the addition of these pieces I'm getting near the price of the Noveske.

BCM charging handles are overrated. I find the latches too large (all of them). Many single point sling adapters out there, in the $30-$40 price range. And you could probably trade the fixed LMT BUIS for folders.

Assuming you're buying from Questar, the LMT is $1900. The Noveske's are $2600. I don't see how you're throwing $700 of stuff on there that isn't optics.

Good point. Seeing as I don`t intend to change this rifle`s configuration, I think I`ll go with the LMT, and decent optics.

Thanks for humoring me. lol I`ve basically arrived at the place I started.

LMT for the win!

Aimpoint Micro H-1/T-1. I think the lowest price is Shooting Edge, they're at MAP (Min. Advertised Price) on Aimpoint.

Unless you plan to teach low light w/ NOD's, the H-1 suffices. Of course, the price difference isn't huge.

I'm not teaching, I'm learning.

After seeing the Micro in action during the DD torture test vid, I think you're right. That sight took a beating and held zero. What do you think about the magnifier? Could hook up an Aimpoint magnifier for a good price locally.

I'm not a fan of the magnifiers. Heavy, crappy field of view, mediocre glass quality, and a very limited eye relief, and most people barely use them as it is (or use them when they don't really need it).

A red dot should suffice for torso hits to 200yds (assuming you can see the target at that distance).

If you prefer greater versatility, get a 1-4x variable power optic. 1x will be 90% (or greater) the speed of a red dot, while providing optional magnification and hopefully a reticle that can provide some type of holder over.

+1
S&B short Dot gets my vote or something similar, but if weight is an issue, get an acog..

Truthfully though sometimes iron is all i want on my rifle..

I tend to prefer irons, a red dot is nice, but I think I might only want one for distances out to 300m.1x4 is a thought. Anybody have experience with the Elcans?

Good scope but for the price difference you may as well get an S&B...if you mean the C79 then definitely something else, the SpecterDR™ 1-4x: seemed pretty good but get a different mount as usual per Elcan..

KevinB had some interesting things to say about Spectre a while back too..

I've owned a SpectreDR and sold it. Heavy (really), limiting in eye relief (might not be able to fit irons behind it, depending on how you shoot), and has ARMS throw levers as a mount. Irons on top of the unit are pretty much a no-go due to needing to float 'chin weld'. Also expensive.

Fastest 1/4x switch out there, pretty good reticle w/ BDC, good dot illumination and glass.
