Black Russian .22lr

I remember Dad buying Russian .22lr ammo in the 1960's , this came in
a Blue box (I think) it had Black Bullets & Black Shells covered with Black
or Dark Grease/Wax.

It was Very Inexpensive ( 99 cents / 50 when Super X was $1.25)
does this ''ring a bell '' with any one ?

I haven't purchased a "new to me" 22lr in awhile and got pretty excited.

Thought...Russian... if it wasn't too expensive....well...I'd just buy it!!

I do not have access to my ammo locker fight now so I can not say for sure,but I seem to remember kind of a white box .But the cartridges were black, cheep and as I remember did not shoot quite as good as cannuks in many rifles. I at one time had a kind of crudely made Russian rimfire 22 i,t had terrible trigger but was very accurate. That black Russian stuff seemed to work pretty well in that rifle . I think I still have few boxes.

YES remember it well. Yrs. ago I bought & shot it. If I remember collectly it was very greasy.
I do not remember it as Good Ammo , but cheap.

vostok maybe? Steel cased.
I remember the stuff but not as good as a friend. Black case meant he didnt see it when he chamber checked. The tv saw the bullet however!
I also remember the stuff smelling bad when you shot it. Not sure if it was the grease or the propellant.
There are some black-cased stuff still around. I think winchester put out a bulk line (m22?) recently and i have either sk or eley in black cases, maybe wolf as well.

That's rite steel shells and it wouldn't chamber half the time in my
CIL 125 , smelt bad when it did fire.

There are or were at least a couple of Russian .22LR ammos that was black. Packaging differed over time. The Junior and Vostok may well be the same.

I used to buy those at a hardware store in downtown Regina in the late 60’s. I can’t remember the price but it was really cheap, really crappy and lots of duds.

I've got an old box of Russian 22 ammo
I don't know what brand it is its in a white box with a blue back and ends
It says Sport Hunting cartridges 22 long rifle first class on the front of the box
and yup all the ammo is black

Century arms used to sell made in USSR biathlon ammunition, it was something like $89/5000, shot just has good as T22...

They also had match brass-case ammunition, with a dimple in the back for $120/5000... I wished I had bought more of it.

Shot lots of the junior stuff. Really dirty and very poor accuracy. Different smell to the burnt powder.
