Black Special bipod question

Hello all,

I have a question on my Black Special that I hope you will be able to help me with. I have been getting .75" or so groups with 55 gr Hornady V-max bullets off the bags at the range so I'm quite happy with the range accuracy. However when I am out shooting coyotes at 250 to 300 yards I need a solid platform to be able to hold for these long shots. The regular bipod on my Swiss rifle seems to hold a tight and consistent group but it is too long and moves the point of impact up about 2" over using the bags. Has anyone ever tried mounting a shorter adjustable lightweight bipod on the bayonet stud and if so what did you use and how did it work? I went through the FAQ's but could find nothing.
I hope you can help me.

Thanks
Bill

Thanks for the replies.
I should have mentioned that I am trying not to modify the lower hand guard with a stud or such but still make it a stable platform. I am presently using a back pack but I still can not get a solid enough hold. I don't get out to practice the long shots enough but I'm confident with my other rifle using the bipod. I have a plan to make an adapter and will let you know how it turns out.

Thanks again,
Bill

Before spending money on making adapters, give the field expedient tripod and the staked fork a try.
They are very cheap and simple to make and are stable. I've had good results with both. The staked fork is a bit slower to set up but the tripod goes down very fast.
In the case of the Swiss Arms tapered barrel, I would rest the rifle towards the rear of the handguard where the barrel is thicker to lessen the pressure being put on it. I prefer to use the magazine as my rest but this is not always possible, especially in shrubs or high grass.

Here's a pic of them both.
