Black talon ammo

I recently picked up an odd box of Winchester Ranger Law Enforcement Ammo labeled 180 gr. Talon RA40T. I have searched the Internet and can only find T-Series or SXT. Does anybody know anything about this box?

Probably an old box. Black Talon is no longer produced by Winchester - it's been replaced with the SXT rounds which is basically the same thing (just not coated)...

At least 10-15 years old. In the U.S. I carried a Sig P 220 .45 with 230 gr Black Talons, a truely awesome round. The 180 gr sounds like a .40 cal?

I looked at all the pics but not one box has Talon on it, only T-series or SXT. I will post a pic after work.

To clear out their remaining stock of "Black Talons" after Winchester voluntarily pulled them off the shelves, they simply put those remaining Black Talons in different boxes and continued to sell them under the name T-series and SXT.

As mentioned earlier, The Ranger SXT being manufatured today is refered to Same eXact Thing as the Black Talons.

Not all of it - I had a whole bunch of 147 gr 9x19 (2-3 cases) that was marked "Black Talon" and had brass cases. All the .40, .45, and .357 I had was nickle though....

Ok, I only had it in the .45.

Anyone could buy it in the US and seems like there was even a rifle round for hunting.

I use to shoot Black Talon in .300 WM for moose (still have a box or 2 kicking around). The name was changed to Fail Safe and was the same as Black Talon. Same nickel case with black hollow point bullet. Then the bullet was changed and renamed again to the SXT.

The name "Black Talon" became a bit of a public relations issue, it sounded too much like "Black Felon". As the principle market for the ammo was government agencies, primarily police departments, sales were (or could) be affected. It was much easier to change the name and let the issue go away than to try and defend.
