Black vs. Grey stock Stevens...

The black ones are based on the older side release d-mag stock. Way more mold lines but a flatter forend. More 'square' through the mag area too. foreend is not as rigid as the grey ones.

for a hunting walkabout rifle, the grey stock is very nice. Mine have been very well molded, smooth and forend very stiff.

Both are blessed with some of the hardest recoil pads in the industry. I think they are made from recycled hockey pucks.

Nope. Just depends on the run and what stock they put on it.

I bought some of the first Stevens in Canada and they had the grey stock. Picked up a Stevens recently from a board member and it came with the black.

If you are not planning on mods to the stock or shooting off a bench, go with the grey one. Much nicer in the hands.

BUM, really don't know as I don't have any Rugers to compare to. However, in the name of science, I will donate a Stevens pad to anyone willing to fire a large cal magnum in order to gather research into both the pad as well as our shoulder replacement medical services.

The Stevens pad is waaaay worse than the Ruger pads.

:D

I didn't think that was possible! Maybe they finally built a better mouse trap. I thought Ruger had their pads as hard as you could get.

Still, I'd buy a Stevens.

I ordered a boyds JRS grey pepper laminate stock for mine. It hasnt arrived yet and it may be awhile; the price was just over a hundred bucks from the states. I cant wait for it to come in. S&H kills ya..

If I can figure out how to post a picture, I will put one up when shes on the stevens. I think I may end up ordering another one when it is installed, and I see the grey stock on my other stevens...
