driving a road at the back of my place I spotted what I thought was a black coyote but we ranged him at 425 yards and it was way too big , got a picture with the I phone and zoomed all the way in. watched him for a good 5 min before it slowly walked into the tree line, my brother has black sheapards and this was easily much larger sorrey about the bad pic . I got to keep a camera in the truck

If your rifle was in the truck, then the picture after you shot it would have looked great! I always kick myself if I forget to have a rifle around when on a drive. Better luck next time.

I missed a running shot at a black wolf that was chasing a cow & calf elk over a beaver dam at about 300 yds. It was a tough shot but I still kick myself for missing about five years later, Only chance at a black one in my life!

took 3 running shots at a black one last year in my field (about 400 yards). didn't expect to hit him, more of an education than anything. Cows were due to start calving soon and didn't want him hanging around. Never did see him again.......

Nice! I've only ever seen one pitch black wolf, and I emptied two mags from my .308 after him as he ran across the lake. I got close a couple times, judging by the vertical jump from a dead out run... but 800 plus yards was way beyond my training and ability at the time. I'd like another opportunity now though.

next time.... ah... next time!

well I got permission to 400 acres to go after the wolf and coyotes, the farmer said there are a lot of coyotes but he never saw the wolf before. after showing the pic of the black , that's all it took, he has young kids that ride the horses , so do they come to a caller or do I wait him out.

Good Luck. Some are more skittish than others....the last one I seen would not let me within a 150 yards. Some are used to humans and are curious....like this one I seen a few years ago.

the guys that hunt them seriously in my area use dead livestock as bait.

wow that's an amazing pic , does it have two different colored eyes, I gone back twice so far and no luck tried during rabbit and mouse squeaks to no affect maybe next time a distressed deer, seen one kill on the snow about 4 fields over yesterday , most of it was gone , a few crows eking at the bones
