blackfeather and iron sights?

Hi MBR lovers,

I am looking at getting a new stock (heavily leaning towards the blackfeather) and in my dream world, I would have a blackfeather and keep the original irons AND have a scope on it. Is such a thing possible? Could I use on of those rails that go on the receiver and the stripper clip guide?

What have you guys done/seen?

Thanks!

My experience is that the Blackfeather moves the M1A platform into a quasi-AR direction. As such you can have a scope and iron sights but in a similar manner to that on an AR. You'd need the extended top rail, mount the scope and put on offset iron sights. Of corse the offsets would have a relatively small sight radius.

What is your intended use? Why not use a low power 1-4x or 1-7x scope?

My ideal dream use would be 0-100 yards, iron sights, above 100 yards, scope.

I am not fully stuck on the blackfeather. I like the looks of it, but function will win out with another stock as well. Kind of want to make it into a EBR/DMR setup if you will

The Sage EBR chassis has both telescoping butstock assembly and fully height adjustable cheek set up.
It would be my first choice given the parameters of use that you are seeking.

If you want to stay with a Blackfeather you might try a scope mounted in a PEPR mount and put a red-dot on top, or on an offset mount - not irons but it will allow fast targeting.

Kinda like this...

I think the blackfeather casm mount acts as a rear peep sight to allow you too use the front sight still, not sure how well it works but it might be something too look into

I am unable to use the factory sights when my action is in the Blackfeather RS, it's an optic friendly system.
The standard butt stock adapter positions the AR style butt stock quite a bit higher than the standard stock.

If you install the optional LSP, you can use flip up battle sights. I get an absolute co-witness through
the Aimpoint Comp M4 with cheap PTS MBUS, and I have a set of TROY battle sights on the way.

As for the SAGE EBR, the only variant that is truly iron sight friendly is the PMRI with the PRS2 butt stock.
The iron sights on the Mod 0 & 1 are sort of useable, but it's not like using a standard stock.

I find the peep site built into my blackfeather CASM unusable. The BF raises the cheek weld above a standard stock slightly. I also found it too low for use with a scope on the CASM. I have a CTR with the lowest 30mm rings I know of and use a half inch riser for a comfortable cheek weld.

My Vortex is in LOW rings, and I had to use a 5/8" riser with the HBA in order to get a proper cheek weld.

H2O man, your stock is different than mine. The rear interface with your buffer tube is much higher. I remember hearing plans for two designs, one low one high. Mine was from the first production run.

Yes, that is the new high butt stock adapter. It works as advertised.

I have one just like that, a leaper's I ordered from fabarms a few years ago. You can't really use the iron sights, I think you have to get an ARMS18 but I'm not 100% sure.

I remember dealing with this Fabricio guy there, I went to screw the side tightening bolt in and the metal was so crappy it instantly warped itself. I e-mailed the guy and he was like NO REFUNDS and blamed it on me leaving oil in the receiver? I brought to the gunsmith to fabricate me a new bolt, and he drilled and tapped a bigger hole in the side of my receiver, basically ruining 100% of the chances of me using anything other than this aluminum mount.

^ Are those 30mm low rings?

You can't use the original rear sight or even the CASM peep sight when the rifle is mounted in a Blackfeather stock since the cheek weld is too high.

If you want to use the stock sights and have the option of using a scope, I would suggest an ARMS#18 scope mount with quick detach ARMS#22 rings.

For the stock, you may want to look into the VLTOR with the adjustable height butt stock or the Archangel with the adjustable height cheek piece

If you want on the fly choice, I would suggest scoping the rifle how you wish and using an offset micro red dot sight for close in.
