blackfeather stock arrived!

Still deciding on optics... what would you choose if this was your rig? I was thinking something along the lines of 4-16x50 or maybe a 2.5-10.

Not a big fan of 50mm objectives on these platforms. Once you get that big the cheek weld REALLY gets outta hand. I ran a 4.5-14x50 Mark4 for a bit and while it was great for the magnification but the ring height was ridiculous and my cheek weld was more of a chin stretch. Went back to a 40mm and it was perfect with nice and low rings. Like anything with a rig like this I'm gonna assume that you like some distance - aka DMR type rifles. Shooting at Vokes 600meters I have never once wished I had more that 10x power with my scope/rifle. I even won a match with the power turned to 3.5 by mistake. Don't get sucked into the more power is better. Get a scope that works for you with the budget you can afford hence my saying "don't be a cheap prick when buying a scope" LOL!

My vote goes for the 2.5-10

Blackfeather arrived , just got back from post office.
All I've done is open the box and lay everything on the table. Not sure if it's one that's missing items but I'm sure they will follow as per Frank's notification.
Gotta say, after a cursory inspection, pretty nice ;)
Instructions appear very well done and totally geared for anyone to read and install.
That's all I'm gonna post by way of "review comments". I'll leave it to others to share thiers.

Now I'm jealous... waiting in the USA

Theres mine, finally finished putting it together last night... (yes dear I'll clean the kitchen table off now)...
Its a crappy NC Star 4-16x50 scope that came with rings, but I blew the rest of my budget on all the other goodies attached. Good thing I have a long neck, it actually feels comfy up at my shoulder. Heading to the range in a few moments to test it out!

Holy high rings there Batman!!! I think you'd get away with a set of lows, ask my how I know that :)

How do u know that? ;)

It holds a zero! ....allmost... hahaha. You get what you pay for!
A better scope is in the plans, but i definitly loved the blackfeather today. Balance is great, trigger reach feels great, shot really well. Was hitting 3inch groups with factory american eagle. Glad i bought one and looking forward to what comes next from M14.ca.

Hi All,

So - I mated up a Blackfeather stock with a Troy top rail this evening.

First of all, if you are installing a Blackfeather read the instructions. I didn't, it cost me time and tears. Please allow me to serve as an example, just read the instructions.

In any case - the Troy doesn't quite fit since it seems the Blackfeather seems to ride a little bit further out towards the front of the rifle, and isn't scalloped in like the original stock at the front. I've made it work by disregarding some of the original Troy hardware at the front and installing other pieces backwards.

Anyhoo - cell phone pics.

And with some bling on it-

This is a Norc Shorty sporting a Hogue grip, Vltor Emod stock, Coast Guard brake, Troy Battlerail and of course Blackfeather stock. It feels really good - though the Troy rail makes it front heavy. Going to load the Emod full of batteries to try and balance things out.

Without the Troy, the balance is amazing. I'm thoroughly impressed by the fit and finish of the Blackfeather so far. Haven't shot it, but looking very much forward to....

ughhhh jizz in my pants. thats my m305 dream one day!!! awesome!!

sling swivels for blackfeather

For anyone out there looking to mount sling swivels on the Blackfeather, I only found one kind that fit. They are made by Grovtec and the part number is GTSW-295. They are excellent quality and made of stainless steel with a black-oxide finish. The base of the swivels screw directly into the holes on either side of the Blackfeather (just above the grip). They simply screw in with an allen key and voila you have quick detatch swivels (1 1/4"). They also screw into the large hole on the underside at the front of the stock for a second sling attachment. I am told these swivels are what the blackfeather was designed to hold. Cost is $24.99 at Brownells for 2 swivels.

Not sure if I'm allowed to post a link but here it is.

That looks sharp Frank. You make great kit- really looking forward to receiving my CASM II when they're ready. Cheers, -Jeff

Thanks Jeff, I should have our entire production batch of CASMs ready this week. It depends on anodizing now. Everything is prepped here in advance of that shipment. I will be inspecting each one myself, as per usual. Yep, and I would thank "Dave" for that photo. He did that build out East. Really nice to see the variety coming out now.

A couple of crummy cell phone shots but you get the idea. Would like to duracoat the upper handguard to be dark flat earth as well. Currently having trouble pulling the flash hider so my install is on hold at the moment. =(

Buttstock is Vltor Emod with Vltor buffer tube
Grip is Magpul Miad
Scope is a older Simmons 4-12 X 50mm my pops gave to me and said "if it dies, it dies"
Waiting on a CASM for the mount.
