So I got bored shooting off the bench with my archangel setup and decided to go full retard with a black hawk down build. So far I have found every specific part pertaining to the build minus the proper 30mm scope ring to hold my aimpoint 5000.

Does anyone have info on what type of ring would have been used on this combo?

Yes...I will post a pic tonight of said project

A few people on M14forum have also made clones, check their threads to get some good detail and investigation work, or yeah as Barney said msg the guy who actually built it.

All the builds I have seen on m14 forum had randon rings and only one used the correct split rail mount. I havent seen one with the correct aimpoint 3000 or 5000 yet.

Thanks Barney, I will try longshot.

Could not find or afford the bpt. Apparently there was a limited production arms plit rail with a stripper guide milled into the rear that were likely in use back then.

BPTs are really rare now. The best bpt mount right now is the sadlak, but the one closest to a real bpt is probably the Fulton clone.

Very cool. If I understand correctly, many of the guns in the film were not era-correct, but still cool nonetheless. I really liked the look of the M14 from the film and tried to get something that somewhat resembled it.

It's all kinds of wrong in terms of a clone build, but it looks like you're headed down that road.

There's some detailed info on what SFC Shughart's rifle probably looked like:

Curious as to how you went about sourcing your Aimpoint 5000. Couldn't have been easy and really interested in one for my build.

Where in Canada did you dig up an Aimpoint 5000?!

Johnny Strong, the actor who played Shugart in Blackhawk Down, used another interesting M14 in the zombie flick Daylight's End (worth a look).

Basically my build, but with a polymer stock. I had the ultra low mount for true co-witness, but found the sight picture to be crowded. Aimpoint PRO low mount on M14.ca scout rail allows for a nice 1/3 co-witness with a good check weld.

In a perfect world, I'd leave the PRO on my AR and put something like the new Vortex Crossfire red dot on their for the sake of weight.
