Blackhawk Down Norinco

Did SFs of that period run red dots on their sniper rifles? Or was it just the spotter/security member of the sniper team?

Randy Shugart (the actual one at Op Gothic Serpent) Preferred the M14 over the at AR platform due to its stopping power. Hit a man and he stays down where the other delta guys at the time complained about the issue 5.56 going right through without stopping opponents (ref: Blackhawk Down, interview with MSgt Paul Howe). They were given the at the time new green tip AP 5.56. The movie shows an M68 Aimpoint however those at the time were not in existance, the real Shugart would most likely have had an Aimpoint 3000 same as the other delta operators.

There's an amazingly comprehensive thread on an American forum where a guy spent years of research and building/gathering to get an as true to spec copy of Shugarts rifle, and ended up donating it to a local museum. It has a ton of good info, on the optic, mount, etc. A Brookfield mount and an Aimpoint 2000/3000/5000 is the accepted gear he was running. Noone truly knows which version it was, but there's a lot of speculation given to each variant.

Wonder which Somalian got his hands on it.....

Good point, I've never thought of this. Could you imagine if it was still sitting in the corner of a tin shack somewhere? Something tells me a higher up in their group would have demanded it as a type of trophy though. That would be bonkers if it turned up.

Someone needs to start a foundation to find historical firearms like that. Guaranteed it is still out there somewhere. No chance it would just be another "picked up rifle" left to rot in some farmers shed. There would be an oral history in Mog at least as to who had it post battle.

***Update*** 1)the Holosun red dot was easy to sight it, hard to see a 6"steel plate at 200yrds. We were able to hit the plate 3/5 rounds.
2) the Cheek riser helped alot, good quality for a strapon
3) After 150 rounds the front part of the CASM mount came loose

If anyone can help me with the CASM mount install that would be great.
