Blackhawk Serpa 1911 Holster

Ive used the SERPAs with 3 of my guns. And I've never had the "problems" i've read mentioned.

But like any piece of gear, you do have to learn how to use it and 'clear' said problems and not panic jerk it.

Any instructor that believes the holster is a problem, shouldn't be around fire-arms in my opinion.

But that's just my 2 cents.

^^This^^
I have had zero issues with my Serpa holster. Many people that I encounter spit out the exact same diatribe about how horrible they are.
The instructors I had on my advanced pistol course had no issues with any students using the Serpa holster.

No problem buying from eBay?

Bought mine from a ebay store in the US by the name of ECOP!.... if I remember correctly. I have ordered multiple items from him with no hitches whatsoever. I am also very happy with my Serpa. It is tough finding holsters for lefties like myself.

there are more places that dont allow a serpa holster than do, and many of those are well respected with most others saying you can use one but they dont recommendatory it

other than the ND hazard, if you are on a course and have to do anything where your holster is in the dirt its very common for dirt to get under the button and then the only way to get you gun out is to cut the holster apart with a knife

I recently have gotten 2 Serpas and a few other things from this American Dealer.Very good prices and shipping.Make sure to use the 15% off code as well.

If you get a serpa and intend to use it hard in adverse conditions keep your dremel with cutoff wheel available. They like to lock up with dirt and sand.

Personally I just use bladetech for personal guns.

Not saying that all instructors are competent, but I'm gonna say that many who are highly trained and very experienced are among the group that do not allow their use nor do they promote them. Call me crazy, but the opinions of recreational shooters has little weight when the big names in the game weigh in. And the big names have spoken. The SERPA is sh*t, stay away from it.

I will ask this question again. Why does a recreational shooter need or want a level 2 retention holster? On a side note, if you don't know what a level 2 retention holster is, you shouldn't be using a holster at all.

Honestly, Serpas seem decent until you see or try other holsters in actual use. Trust me on this, I own both a Serpa (which has the lock removed) and a Raven. I let beginners use the serpa, now that the lock is gone. The list of places and instructors that won't allow them reads like a who's who of pistol training, and includes household names like Gunsite, Larry Vickers, Frontsite, TR and lesser known high speed guys like Paul Howe, Bill Rogers etc. It's not just one or two places that won't allow the Serpa, it's the vast majority. Blade Tech costs about the same but is a better design and is made of much higher quality materials, and no one has an issue with their products. Pushing in with your trigger finger while trying to draw a pistol under any kind of stress is just dumb.
