I recently picked up a BH Serpa CQB kydex holster for my Glock 17 for IDPA. I found the retention excellent and the push button release very fast. I was able to get 1.2 second draws from the concealment. It is very fast and easy to get used to.

The release button is perfectly in line with your index finger, as you grasp your pistol grip your finger automatically is over the button. If you practice you can get extremely fast draws.

I decided to try my draws compared to my CR Speed holster, and I found it was actually a little faster on average. With the Serpa, there is no way you can inadvertently knock your pistol out of the holster, so I am able to grab the pistol grip with more aggressively without worrying about knocking it out. After a bit of practice I able to repeat this. If you attempt to pull the pistol out before you depress the release button you will give yourself "The Mother of all Wedgies".

I have used the BH Serpa CQB in IDPA but I wondered who it would be for IPSC? I know it is not supposed to be a speed holster, or even a race holster, but how good was it in competition? I used it in a recent Level III IPSC match and had no problems what so ever. I did not feel under equipped what so ever. My draws were just as fast as anyone there and there was no chance of dropping the pistol... one less thing to worry about. This holster is fast, just as fast if not faster than the race holster, easier to use with practice and more forgiving.

I also tried the BH magazine holders that go with the Serpa series. These double stack mag holders have a flexible tensioner that allows you to use just about any type of double stack magazine. They work for my 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45acp double stack magazines.

The magazine holders are designed to clip onto or slide onto your belt. 5 BH magazine holders take up just 9.25 inches on my belt compared to 13.5 inches for my 5 Safariland magazine holders on my competition belt. This translates into having all 5 of my magazines closer together and within easy reach.

This combination setup is not a full blown race rig but it works and works very effectively. I find this better suited for me. I can now use the exact same rig for IPSC, IDPA, Tactical/Practical Shooting, and conceal carry.

This is my setup for my Glock 17 for IDPA and IPSC. I now have a setup that is completely the same for most of my shooting sports. I will be able to easily transition from one to another without changing gear or my setup. Practices and training will not differ much.

Pop , my draw time is not as fast as yours but i really like the holster . I have the G21 .45 . I did run into something unexpected while practise drawing when something bounced off my shoe . It was a screw so i took them all out , cleaned the threads and blue locktited them all . Good to go .

any chance of putting your finger in the trigger area when drawing fast? your finger is needed to press the button and can easily go into that area when drawing fast.

No Musky, as the pistol is drawn out of the holster your index finger goes along the slide. You have to reindex your finger to the trigger.

Nice looking holster, is the angle or rake of the holster adjustable?

Yes it is, neutral and then two angles forward and back.

Todd Jarret used the version of that holster without the lock on it. very very nice. I've also heard that a large number of cops are going to that holster for duty carry. I would guess UC work? but have heard for regular duty as there is one that will take guns with lights mounted on them. I know what you mean about being able to be aggressive with the draw too Pops, I felt the same with my Langdon holster for my Beretta. But I eventually got faster with my Ghost as I practiced more and more.

I got one for my STI Ranger II 3 weeks ago from a local cop supply dealer.

Wish I had this back in 2003 when I was carrying in South Africa. It snugs the gun up nice against the body and doesn't print very much at all.

It's not going to beat a race holster and give that smokin' draw, but for what it's designed to do - its very very sweet.

I set mine up with the paddle. It really locks in under the pants. No play at all on the draw. Nice holster.

Thanks guys,

Can you please let me know where can I buy it, maybe a link or so?

Also,
I am totally new to shooting IPSC, however since January I was able to acquire four handguns for almost every class :), I got Springfield and STI for Standard and XD9 for production, also I would like to shoot some revolver with my SW686. For now I would like to have fun in Standard 75% shooting and shoot indoor with Production pistol.
My problem with XD9 is very long pull and heavy trigger,
do you guys know anyone who can improve the pull down to 5lbs?

Thanks

Peter

Good people.

I just picked on eup from Jeff at Valley Gun Smithing in Petawawa. Took it out and after a little practice and a couple of those mother of all wedgies that pops was talking about I got my draw times down to what for me is a very good time. Cannot wait to get out and try the IDPA qualifier again now.

I bought one for my G17 a couple of weeks ago. Little bit different than the one that Pops has as it does not have the Serpa push button release.

Shot a couple of matches with it so far and no complaints - except my shooting and that is not holster related...

I only paid about $30 US for it down in Rochester. Definetly a good a value and quality holster if you don't want to use one of the speed or race holsters.
