I have about 1/2 container left of blackhorn 209. It’s the Powder that I use in my Remington 700 Uml with the federal borelock. Up to 200 yard, it’s a great fit. Since blackhorn209 is hard to find, I am wondering if IMR White hot could be a good fit ? What do you guys thing would be the best Powder ?I have not been able to find any BH209 for the last year or more.
I have given up on it and am switching my BPCR over to Triple7. My Marlin in 45LC loves it while the Marlin in 38/55 has yet to be switched over.
The BH209 gave a bit more spirited performance in the cartridge rifles but not by a huge amount. The Triple7 has always been easy to procure at my local gun stores. It has also always been less money!

It’s made here like most of Hodgdon a line up is made here. it has to be shipped south packaged and wait for them to get their fill before they even think of shipping it here.I have a bottle I’ve had for years because I can’t find anywhere to shoot near me in the past 5 years. I remember the charge tubes were hard to find and expensive but I thought the powder was made up here so not sure why you can’t find it? I even got the special cleaning solvent for it.
Is that truly how it works?? We make it but sell it to the states to bottle it and now we are at their mercy to get it back?? Wtf is going on in the world today. It’s made here like most of Hodgdon a line up is made here. it has to be shipped south packaged and wait for them to get their fill before they even think of shipping it here.
As per the posts above, I do not think there is any "we" involved - not the canadian public or the canadian shooters. Hodgdon either bought or contracted with a facility that happens to be located in Canada - product made at that factory gets shipped to USA - up to Hodgdon where it gets sold after packaging. Not sure there is anything "we" make. I think Hodgdon does similar with powder actually made in Sweden or in Australia. I think Hodgdon is very close to a full monopoly of the North American powder supply - if they do not own the companies / brands (IMR, Winchester, Western Powders), then they control the import and distribution (Reloader)Is that truly how it works?? 80% atleast of Hodgdon powders are made here. Then theirs some from Australia and Europe. As per the posts above, I do not think there is any "we" involved - not the canadian public or the canadian shooters. Weighing 777 is a bad idea as it’s a volume for volume substitute for black powder.I recently bought my 1st in-line for our new extended deer hunt with a ML here in NB. After looking around and seeing what there is to use, I decided on using Triple Seven in powder form. Bought three pounds @$75/lb. I weigh all charges and have no troubles at all. Accuracy is very good and bore is easy to clean.
Blackhorn 209 can blow it out it's ear at those prices.
Google it as I did.Weighing 777 is a bad idea as it’s a volume for volume substitute for black powder.
I weigh real black powder for the most part but use volume for subs.Google it as I did.
I didn't know a thing about MLs until I bought one so had to do a lot of research to avoid blowing my head off. A lot of folks do in fact weigh their powder. Most will throw a few volumetric loads and weigh them an go with the average.
For 777, you get 77.7 weighed grains of powder for 100gr volume.
Check it out.
