blacking stainless steel?

Is it possible to have stainless barrels and actions blacked? Many of us love the durability of stainless steel, but don't like the reflective surface while out varmint hunting.

So, rather than painting, is there a chemical process to blacken the steel?

Do any of our resident gunsmiths offer this service?

You could have your stainless done in KG GUNKOTE. Pretty much any colour that you want. Flat olive drab and flat black have been the most popular. Spray on and bake. Works on any surface, just needs to be sand blasted to bare metal first.

Its probably not needed to blacken the barrel because you will be shootin' varmints from far enough away that the color of your barrel won't make any difference at all.
Now what will get the varmints attention is all the smokin, tokin' and jokin' around in the field.
