I am building a Colonial Pistol from a old looking kit I picked up at the gun show. The stock is worse than I expected. After removing enough wood to get the lock in I found that it sits too far into the stock and interferes with the barrel by about 0.02".

Am I better off

filing 0.02" off the back of the lock.

putting shim behind it.

or just not tightening everything up until final assembly.

And to get the dovetails for the sites and stuff in should I file off the edges or draw file the bottom off to make it thinner?

Thanks.

Shim it or put in a thin layer of epoxy bedding material. Always fit the sight to the dovetail. Usually the edges. Filing the bottom will lower the sight.
