Okay, just to set the record straight - I am not a virgin, in the Biblical sense...

That said: Currently, I have a modest collection of Lee Enfields, and a desire as finances get better, and matrimonial attention gets lessor, to start going further back with Commonwealth rifles / shoulder arms. Martinis may be the next step, but eventually I hope to get into the black powder, muzzle-stuffing realm.

That said, I am also a big fan of the Sharpe's series.... I realize that without a King's ransom, I will never own a genuine Baker, but the repros seem... "relatively" reasonable(!). Would any of you fine folks be able to recommend a particular repro? I would like to think of myself as not entirely retarded with tools, but still... The rifle and it's furniture are probably safer if I do NOT have to do any fitting / finishing myself!

As far as I know, TRS "the rifle shoppe" is the only company offering a true to the origional version of the baker rifle with a RIFLED barell,
Kit Bakers from them go for around 1000$$ I think a completed one is closer to 2000$$


Loyalist and middlesex village offer them aswell BUT-
They are smooth bores, If that doesnt bother you I would go with the Loyalist one as I have really enjoyed the muskets I have from them.

If your just getting into smoothbore flintlocks and want to keep the initial purchase price low
I might suggest going to Loyalists "specials section" they have unfinished pieces/ kits and damaged stock there for very fair prices, A little t.l.c and you can build yourself a nice gun.

Also sitting fox ww.sittingfoxmuzzleloaders.com has some aluring kits for very fair prices.

Hope you can glean some usefull info from some of that

Pardon my coming frankness,

Use another company like Loyalist - ww.loyalistarms.freeservers.com
or ww.middlesexvillagetrading.com if your going to buy a smoothbore indian baker.

Mil heritage has the worst customer service I have EVER had the misfortune to deal with.....They dont do repairs, answer questions....Nothing

They have a good collection of swords, thats the only good thing I can say about them.
