I own one, its good, not just because i own one and i ditched out the 2k to buy one, i have no problem saying something i bought is crap. With the elcan this is not the case.

ok, so other than the magnification adjustment that I don't want/need I see no gain. It is bigger, heavier, has less FOV and costs more.............did I miss something?

I would even venture to say the glass is higher quality on the Hensoldt unless you can offer some real life experience with both scopes.

Let's line up a range day, you can shoot my rifles with ACOG and Elcan Specter DR. I have no Hensoldt to compare to though but I can't imagine the glass being better than the Elcan, that thing is amazing.

thanks, but wrong province. The glass quality is a toss up unless someone who has one posts but the other things I mentioned are shortcomings I can't see myself compromise on while spending more.

Upon first looking at the pictures in your OP, the optic reminded me of the C79 or Elcan SpecterOS3.4x which is currently in use on the C9 and C7 in the Canadian Forces. They can take a beating, but I personally wouldn't buy one. What I liked about the one you posted was the fixed 4 or fixed 6, and the fact you can put a red dot battle sight on the rail on top of the optic. That you cannot do with the Elcan I am familiar with, as it has rubber battle sights that quickly wear off. Sometimes I wish the C7 had a greater magnification, but in the end higher ups want you to win the fire fight and not be a marksman. Then they wonder why people shoot like crap, but that's another story. The fixed 4 on the Elcan works fine for the C9 light machine gun. On a long burst the movement of gun makes it difficult to really see whats going on in the optic. I use the optic to get acquisition of the target and use my other eye to watch the beaten zone, which is an oval shaped pattern, with my original target in the center of it.

Running urban ops or when I'm the breacher, I use iron sights. I don't want to eff around with optics, batteries, or other variables.

Bottom line is if you like the optic buy it for what you want to use it for. It looks very durable so it should last if you decide to get it.
 
The biggest reason for putting the C79 on a C9 is target identification. Shooting at shapes in the distance can be awesome. Not so awesome when they are on your team, or not even playing the game. Most troops are terrible marksmen, more power will not fix that, just create more problems with tunnel vision.

If I was picking a general issued optic it would be built like a tank with fixed power between 3x and 4x and a BDC reticle. The only issue I have with the C79 is the external adjustments.

I think you should order one and give us a report! It seems to be the only one you want.

I have a 4x32 TA02 ACOG on my Tavor and like it quite a bit, very high quality. If I could justify more though, I would've got the Elcan Specter DR, super nice scope.

I did the research on what I wanted before making this thread, that is why this thread was not created to tell me about other options. It was to get infotmation from people with hands on experience with the optic I have chosen which is lighter, smaller and has a larger FOV than comparables and less cost than some, but thanks for pointing that out.
 
Hensoldt optics are very good quality, their glass is as good or better than Elcan. They are not very popular in North America. I would not hesitate to purchase and use one of their scopes. No personal experience with the ones you mentioned other than looking through them at trade shows. I think for general shooting, range / accuracy and Service Rile the 6 power would be a very good choice.

I've had the opportunity to recently try out an elcan specter dr on my xcr. I got 2-3 moa all day (not bad for an xcr) I got home and put my cabelas tactical 3x prism sight (with illuminated reticle!!!!) and I got 2-3 moa for the last 3 months solid

I liked the c79 in the army. I got 2-3 moa, maybe tighter can't remember. I'd love to try a handslut or whatever. Maybe I'll even get 2-3 moa

Here's a pic of the cabelas tactical 3x prism sight. Even includes the built in mount and a battery! what a deal hey guys?

Not bad actually , certainly better then a c79, but not as good as a specter dr. For me it's just not justifiable to spend an extra 2000$ if I can get the job done just as well.

Now if I made 100k a year or some one was to offer me a specter who am I to say no? But for now my groups stay the same

I'm surprised its clear at that range. Looks like you found something affordable that works.
