Blank 308 barrel in 1:10 twist

Hello,
Does anybody know a canadian source source of 308 blanks in 1:10 twist? Ideally I'd prefer hammer-forged blank but will consider any stainless or black.
 
The only company that I know of in Canada that hammer forges barrels is Colt Canada. You will have better luck finding a button or cut rifled barrel.
 
Out of curiosity why hammer forged? There have been arguments over cut vs button rifled barrels regarding accuracy but I've never seen hammer forged barrels promoted as the most accurate barrel type besides as it is incredibly expensive to set up it is the realm of high production rifle companies. As for Canadian sources Ted Gaillard of St Brieux SK makes barrels as does Ron Smith and Jerry at Mystic Precision (a site sponsor) imports barrels from the US including Shilen and Krieiger.
 
I'm re-barreling Norinko made short m305 and forming one from blank ain't gonna be cheap. Hammer forged barrels tend to last longer due to tougher inner surface of barrel (result of forging process). Original m305 Norinko barrels are hard chrome lined and last over 20k rounds. I'll be happy if I can get more than 10K from regular hammer forged barrel or 5k from button cut. Prefer 1:10 twist since barrel is short and I'm planning to shoot heavy 220gr bullets.
BTW, I'm not looking for a canadian barrel manufacturer but rather for a canadian source to purchase a barrel.

Krieger makes barrels for M1A which may fit your m305 as it is a clone, check with Jerry at Mystic precision as he imports Krieger barrels but the wait can be long depending on what Krieger has on hand. Also a call to Krieger would confirm if their barrel would fit your rifle.

My project is based on a inexpensive m305 barre-less kit of pars that I was given for free with busted barrel (barrel exploded). Needles to say that I'm trying to restore m305 on-a-budget. IMHO it is be kind of unreasonable to pay ~$1K for re-barreling of $500 worth of rifle.
Can you guys recommend some economical barrel source in Canada? Re-barreling will be performed by Barry from Bits-of-Pieces and initially I was planning to also get Heym hammer forged blank from him. But it has been about a year since Barry ordered blanks from Heym and they are still not here. Furthermore, there is no sure date when blanks going to arrive or if they will ever arrive. Therefore I have decided to explore my other options and finally complete my restoration project.

Least expensive way to get a barrel on it would be to buy a take-off M305 barrel. I have seen them in the EE from time to time for $100 or so.
Taking a barrel blank, and having it machined into a M-14 type barrel is going to cost way over $500.

Do you think you will get a Heym fitted for under $500? if and when you get it?,

I suggest you buy a M305 from Wolverine for $565.00 and go shoot it for 20K rounds and give your free parts to an unsuspecting friend to try and find a barrel for them.

You'll be out shooting right away, your ex friend will have your current headache and it will only cost you maybe $65.00 more for your trouble. Problem solved.

I was quoted $800 and it was suppose to also include some additional accurizing job and parts. Considering that I got all parts for free, $800 for a somewhat accurized m305 seemed to be right on a border line of acceptable.

My proposal still stands.

Your new barrel is really well over the border line, if and when you get it. You don't know what additional repairs/fixes/fitting it will need, or how long it will take to do if you are able to import that barrel. And you will still have a Chinese POS with a new barrel when you are done.

The "free" parts you got are not really free. are they? They are going to cost more than the $565 it would cost to buy a new Chinese M14 copy that you could be shooting now. There is no way around this fact, as you are reluctantly discovering.

I have a broughton, 308, 10 twist, 30" rough, 1.25" tube in the basement.... Cost me $400 iirc.

The cost to chamber and thread that to an action would be at the very cheapest $225, I would expect $400+.

To have someone contour that barrel to a different profile..... I would expect another 5-600$...... As that would be labor at $85/hr.....

It would be cheaper to source a nork take off barrel, or purchase a kreiger already profiled..... Heck for $300 and a bit of paperwork you can get a short chambered barrel from brownelles! Boost that to $500 and they'll sell ya a short chambered kreiger!

I would just sell the 'box parts' and buy a nork rifle nib or used off the EE......

NormB, I think you are absolutely right. Sometimes one actually needs to hear other people say it to believe it.
The fact that I got all parts for free somehow loored me into this project and I ended up paying more than I should of.
I already have some time and money invested into it (purchased new stockt) and will have to complete what was started. But at this point I can see that my project was not a good idea.
