Blanks???

The powder used in blanks is extremely fast burning and completely unsafe for any load with a projectile in front of it.
You will not be able to buy the type of powder required for making blanks.

OK, maybe I am wrong on buying powder for blancs. My reading on blancs is that the powder is much faster burning than even Bulls Eye or 231. Therefore I presumed we would not be able to buy it.
I also thought it was kept off the market because it is too fast for any regular use and could be extremely dangerous if used.

You are essentially right--the powder is not used in bulleted loads--there used to be some ord NRA formulas for making up rifle blanks for use in ceremonial volleys--it does involve fast burning powder and light wad to seal the case. A search of the NRA site might turn something up.

revolver blanks can be make quite easily with black powder and a cardboard wad to seal the case--I used to make them up in .38 special from time to time. no reason it wouldn't work in a bolt action rifle--but I don't think I would like to bother cleaning the gas system in a semi-auto.
