This variant of the Garand does everything the M1A or M14 does, but does it better! Integrated Flash-Hider/Compensator with Energa Rifle Grenade-Launching capability, integrated Bipod, Gas-Cutoff and Grenade Sight, fold-down Winter Trigger and Stripper Clip guide. Oh, and let's not forget the very clever Folding Buttstock....

Just needs the Winter Safety.
Whereas the M14 lacks the integral Tri-Compensator (Flash-Hider, Muzzle Brake, 22mm Grenade Laucher), Bipod, Folding Buttstock and Winter Trigger (permanently integrated). Oh, and all that goodness is found on a combat-proven rifle that cost next to nothing to manufacture (modify), and took far less time and effort to field than the M1A/M14.
It fell victim to the old”not invented here”adage.
Indeed, that and the misplaced(?) American insistence upon developing a new rifle "inspired" by the M1 Garand, but designed from the ground-up as an entirely new platform. The engineers at Aberdeen were so insistent upon the fledgling M14 winning competitive trials that they deliberately stacked results against the Armalite AR10. Of course, the AR10 suffering a burst barrel during the trials when George Sullivan inisisted upon using an experimental Steel Barrel Liner surrounded by Aluminum for weight savings, also helped to sign the AR10's US procurement death warrant....
