Blast Shield for RDS or not?

Hi folks, I'm just building an open pistol for IPSC. I picked up a Double Tap frame mount for my Tanfoglio and it came with a blast shield. Unfortunately the screws that came with my DPP are too short with the shield in place. I ordered some longer screws just in case but are in transit. Seeing that I don't have a ported barrel, would I still risk getting crud on the optics from the muzzle?

Another thing, I can only fit the DPP using only two of the four boss pins. With four boss, the sight doesn't sit flush. I can turn down two of the boss pins if necessary but is two enough?

The only thing that will hit the sense is maybe some oil from the slide going back and forth. Blast shield won't help for the oil spray. Like you said, it's not ported so I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks. That's comforting to know. Do you think having 2 bosses under the RDS mount is good enough?

Just remember that a drop of blue Loctite on each screw is needed. i've seen more than one shake loose. I also put a witness mark with a silver sharpie on the screw heads where they touch the body of the RDS that way you can tell if they do move without tighten screws every few outings.

Yup, Loctite is my best friend. I started using the gel version, much nicer and I find a more stronger hold.

Got the proper screws from DoubleTap so now it's all properly mounted up.

I got some M4x20 screws from Ackland Grainger to mount the RDS as the DPP factory screws were only holding on by a couple threads. I figured since I have to trim the new screws, I might as well fit the blast shield.

The heads on the screws were way to big (7.5mm wide) and looked hideous on the RDS so I turned down the heads to 5.5mm and blued them.
