Wow good deal. Appears to be a budget offering, wonder what the differences between them and the higher end modelsl are. Always liked the M12, wonder if they use the same stock.

That Europtic site linked above is pretty short on information. The gun looks like just a standard bolt-action rifle; not a straight-pull like a Blaser. Does it use a de-cocking safety? They don't say. Interchangeable barrels? No idea. QD return-to-zero scope mounts? Anybody's guess. Essentially no info at all.

The photo banner seems to imply that the gun takes down easily. It shows a guy, apparently a hunter, dragging a 1950's-style rope-handled wooden crate behind him into the bush (and looking pretty stupid while doing it). Another picture shows him peeking inside the crate. Finally, the rifle is shown perched atop the crate, which is too short to store said gun without removing the barrel. Maybe the barrel comes off easily, without tools...but that crate is large enough to house a pretty complete selection of tools, and they don't actually tell us or show us anything at all, so...?

I appreciate good marketing. This ain't it.

Buy it you will be happy with the purchase. Mauser = quality. It is not like every other budget rifle it is better.

Or it's just another example of an established Euro brand cheapening their image by trying to capture the entry level market. *cough*Zeiss*cough*

You could be right. I have 2 budget euro rifles and yes they are not like their more expensive guns built at the same factory. But I was surprised at the level of metalwork and what really matters accuracy. Both Steyr and Sako have done a good job on the T3 and pro hunter. Both have cheap stocks but designed with no surprises. The pro hunter has a lot of flex in the forearm but it is designed in such a manner that a 300 win mag has very felt recoil. Nice bonus in a rifle costing less that 1000 dollars. Both are what I consider very accurate rifles. So while you are correct I would say they are a cut above a Remington and Savage of equal price. Yes the Zeiss is a by name a Zeiss but we both know it is a very average scope and made around 7000 miles from where it should be. At the end of the day it looks to me like budget rifles are going to be the lifeblood of most of the companies because most people simply do not have the purchasing power we had in the past. So if they do not do it right they will die. I would say most are doing it right Mossberg have done a very good job in their wood stocked patriot rifle. I am willing to bet the Mauser is a cut above in performance over the American companies but I have never shot one.

What is wrong with the zeiss entry level scopes? I've never owned one but I've looked through them and the glass quality was great. Any negatives?

I bet this mauser is more like a tikka than an xpr, American or 783.

The price is $699.99, and without a doubt this is the best finished and fitted $700 rifle I’ve laid eyes on. Because it’s inexpensive doesn’t mean it’s cheap. You can buy a $400 or a $500 centerfire and you’ll save $200, but it won’t be anything like this one
