BLC vs BLC2

I have two 1lb cans of BLC that appears to be in good condition(no rust or bad odour). I have used BLC2 with good results & I'm wondering if I can use the same loading data with the older BLC? I emailed Hodgdon regarding this but have not received a reply.

Anyone have experience with these powders?

You're definitely reaching back. I've been a reloader for 35 years and have never seen a can of Ball-C, it's been BLC-2 as long as I've been in the game.

I scanned through my "Ken Waters Pet Loads" The only reference to BL-C I could find was a load for the 'short round' Barnes .308x1.5 . I recall many years ago my brother-in-law talking about BL-C and that it went out of production in 1960 or '61

Buy a couple of pounds of BL-C2 and mix the two together in a big tub. That'd even everything out.

Well, I found a copy, but it's a third edition, doesn't go back far enough, sorry. I think I would start with bottom end BLC-2 data and work up. - dan

Hodgdon claimed the new version was cleaner-burning than BL-C; burn rate is close to the original BL-C, but BL-C and BL-C (2) are not identical and data between the two are not interchangeable. Since introduction, many handloaders have verbalized the “BL” as “Ball,” as in, “Ball-C Two.”

According to that book I referenced, Propellant Profiles, BLC-2 stands for BLC Lot 2. - dan
