My son has asked me to buy him a blood light for Xmas. He is into bow and rifle hunting and wants something that will be easy to use and effective. Said something about a Primos blood light. Has any one out there used a blood light and if so how effective is it and what type should one be looking at.
Thanks for any info I may get.

Yep, I own the Gerber, the best thing about it is the hoster it comes in as you can put it over a limb while you are gutting and can see good. Other then that, the only time the red and blue works on blood is in the snow. On the ground the white light is the best between the two different light modes...

I have the little Primos mini one (red/green). It's not a magic bullet for blood tracking or anything, but it does definitely make anything in the neighbourhood of blood red stand out nicely in low light (though this will often include red leaves and red foliage as well). Bottom line - it works significantly better than white light, IMHO, but you still have to do the work of tracking yourself -- it won't make a guy who can't track into a world class game finder.

Also, it works pretty good for a flashlight for hiking out in the dark.

:)

Just a suggestion here, you should probably go to the Cabelas web site and find their selection of blood lights/trackers. Read the commentary that is submitted on those products. It usually gives you a good indication of what to buy and not buy.
